Hey Guys,

How should a pump sound? I'm new to this whole watercooling thing, and my AMD Fury X utilizes an all in one liquid cooler.

However, there's a constant "buzzing noise", even at the lowest fan speed. If i max the fan speed to 100%, the buzzing noise gets drowned out by the insanely loud gentle typhoon.

Should an all in one liquid cooler be completely silent? Because mine sounds like a worn out fan...

Also, my GPU has coil whine (much like in many of the Fury X reviews) ..i think i'll just RMA it.

System without the Fury X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfminqAIl_4

System WITH the Fury X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfyQzroYnrI&feature=youtu.be

Got my replacement on 7/2/15, here's how the replacement sounds:
IDLE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF7HBILzXtM
100% LOAD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEg8DiOV6GA

This guy's review of the Fury X confirms my problems (go to 7:38):

Pumps tend to resonate at 2-3KHz which is at the most sensitive part of human hearing, and will also cause some case side panels to vibrate depending on the resonant frequency of the case so overall watercooling can add a lot of "annoying" noise to a pc, similar to having a mini fridge next to you, even if the intensity of the noise is not that high. Generally continuous noises like a fan is easier to cope with than a sound that comes and goes and sounds like vibrating metal.

That's the main reason I returned my evga hybrid coolers in exchange for ACX fans on my Titan Xs.

AMD has stated some of the cooler master pumps are making noise when they should not. One of the reviewers had a card that did this. May be worth contacting the company that made your card.

I have never owned a cooler master pump, but my Corsair pump is silent.

Coil whine is normal for every single GPU on the market. If it only does it without a frame limiter, limit the frames. If its doing it at 60fps, then its worse than it should be. Either needs the caps glued or just RMA it. But your RMA may take a while as supplies are short.

possible for you to record this sound? in video or audio form? whatever is more convenient for you? I would very much like to hear it for my self. noise is a huge deal breaker for me.

in terms of coil whine, make sure it's the GPU and not the PSU or could be both

upgraded from a 7850 > R9 290 and got coil whine along with interference with my sound

initially thought it was my R9 290 but it was actually my PSU and needed to replace it to fix whine & sound interference

welcome to high end GPUs. My 970 was whining like a girl but I figured it was solid. Thought AMD didn't whine though.

Pump is going to be the main source of issues. Have to watch that.

The point about the PSU being the source is also something. It could also be the card and that particular PSU combination.

Okay. the two videos are uploaded. The first vid is with R9 280x, the second is with the R9 Fury X. I edited my original post.

tell me what you guys think. or maybe im too sensitive..

is the noise from the video from the fan on the radiator? is the case open? full load or idle? I couldn't tell the difference between both videos except for the fury x one to be a tiny bit louder.

This issue was reported by both TechReport and TechPowerUp in their reviews.

According to TechReport, it was supposed to have been resolved for the final shipping product. They contacted AMD and received the following response:
AMD received feedback that during open bench testing some cards emit a mild "whining" noise. This is normal for most high speed liquid cooling pumps; Usually the end user cannot hear the noise as the pumps are installed in the chassis, and the radiator fan is louder than the pump. Since the AMD Radeon R9 FuryX radiator fan is near silent, this pump noise is more noticeable.
The issue is limited to a very small batch of initial production samples and we have worked with the manufacturer to improve the acoustic profile of the pump. This problem has been resolved and a fix added to production parts and is not an issue.
Thus, I would recommend a RMA.

both are idle and the case is open. it might be a little harder to tell in the videos, but in real life, with my r9 280x, i can't evn hear the case, but with my fury x, theres a constant buzzing noise and a eeeeeeeeeeeeeeiinnnnggg coil whine that i can hear.

i mean i really love the performance on this thing after testing it out, but i can't stand the noise

Does not sound like coil whine, or the pump either. Pump is more of a mechanical noise, you might always hear a little bit of water like in the garden with a water fountain.

It does sound similar to coil whine, but not really to what i have experience. Coil whine is unmistakable, the moment it happen to me for the first time i said oh that's coil whine.

I would send it back.

This video you can hear the pump noise.

Does the noise get louder when the card gets stressed? Or does it stay constant?

I didn't notice the weird noises getting any louder or quieter when I loaded up Witcher 3 in 1440p (100% gpu utilization).

I tried turning up the fan speed to 100%, and the fan speed at 100% drowned out the noise, but as soon as I turn it back down to auto (or on 25%) speed, the noise becomes audible

Looks like i'm not the only one, this video has similar sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKoNa1OXnQA

same with this video, he has the same sound:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg58Y68MNko

I need to remind myself to never buy a card on launch ever again..haha. The initial batch is iffy sometimes i guess.

Yeah, i know one review mentioned some noise (coil whine or pump noise).

I would send it back and wait a bit. Sucks, good thing i didn't find them in stock lol.

I hear the buzzing noise but that doesn't sound like coil whine to me.

And the fact that the noise isn't getting worse with 100% gpu usage leaves me to believe its not.

Any card I've heard with coil whine always gets louder the more load you put on the gpu.

I would still rma it though.

Damn, that whine would drive me crazy. Don't blame you for RMA'ing it.

Sounds like a bad pump more than coil whine. Coil whine should be higher frequency noise and change with GPU load.

Recording signal/noise ratio seems very low, and amplitude of the noise doesnt change when you move the camera..

At what distance is exactly the micro.??.
