Depending on application the stock E8400 compared to a very OCd 3800 would be 30-100% faster. But in everyday usage, not $240 better.

Remember that a 2.6 oc on a 3800 is comprable to a 3.6 or ghz or better OC on the E8400 -- apples to apples. In THAT case the performance difference would be really huge: up to 150% more with certain apps.
