This may be a stupid question, but is it known right now what socket AMD is going to use as soon as their quad-core finally becomes available?

If I were to invest in this shuttle, would I be able to upgrade to quad-core in the future or would I be out of luck?

Check what people in the Sudhian.com forums think, but I've seen more than a few complaints there of Shuttle not putting out BIOS updates for compatibility. So it would defnitely be a gamble.

You might be better off getting a Core 2 design, or building a microATX cube using an Ultra Microfly.
 
Yeah, I have a Shuttle right now and I really like it, but there is no denying they are a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to new hardware compatibility...
