Getting off topic, but come on, all the 14nm delays have put a big question mark in Intels mobile plans. Cherry Trail seems a disaster with no cpu performance improvement, and where are all the integrated modems they needed yesterday? Meanwhile, ARM and Apple just keep marching along, bringing out new and faster products, and becoming even more firmly entrenched.

Could be a positive effect of the OEMs leveling the production throughout the year. Even they using Foxconn or others can't scale production by these factors.

Cherry Trail was never about CPU performance. But about IGP and BOM.

Did you see Qualcomms result?

Cherry Trail is not seeming to be a dissaster... IS a dissaster... The GPU increases are heavily nerfed by thhe CPU brutal nerf. It makes AMD Mullins looks competent again. Is a total step back from Intel. Seems that Atom uarch is about to fail hard.
They need a STRONG revamp just like Nehalem to SB

Contra revenued eliminated would be more accurate if you had an once of honnesty, we all know that Baytrail was prefered due to its superior perfs, isnt it...

So Intel comes one year later with a chip that is barely competitive with 28nm Mullins and that s all nirvana in the Intel supporting team..?.

Where are the power measurements, after all it s all about mobile..?.

Edit : Perhaps that you can post them in the relevant thread to keep this one from being constantly derailed...

Anyone can measure Surface 3's power consumption, it's not something forbidden like the Mullins reference platform AMD sent to reviewers to make it look competitive inside a 11.6'' thick chassis that doesn't resemble any typical 7-8'' tablet Bay Trail-T product. They obviously had to hide the outrageous power numbers and put a giant chassis to allow it to sustain Turbo speeds even though they knew it would fail miserably to deliver this kind of performance inside a real small tablet, you know, similar to your Core M accusations. OEMs obviously knew that, hence why it almost didn't make it to the tablet market. Do you really think they couldn't have launched such a product at higher prices if it really outclassed BT-T like that? Surface 3 at $500 is the proof they could. They didn't because Mullins is just smoke and mirrors, like most AMD launches, another PowerPoint slides champion.

Ps: Braswell completely smokes your precious Kabini in perf/watt, even AMD-biased Hardware.fr aknowledges that:

You realize that you are denying that Contra revenues are the cause of Mullins being not present in W8 tablets..?..

I stand by my post that whoever say otherwise is intellectualy dishonnest.

As for Hardawre.fr review i did read it, cherry trail smoke nothing, CPU perf/Watt is not improved, quite the contrary, GPU is much improved but TDP is understated by Intel as proved by this review that yield roughly 10W at the SoC level for the higher grade part...

All they did was to reduce frequency by 10-20% because this improve mechanicaly the perf/Watt by the same ratio, that s completely irrelevant as comparison wich must be done at equal frequency and electrical environment...

Edit : As pointed post the infos in your btrail thread, why keeping derailing this one..??.

You are afraid that i wouldnt answer there..?.

AMD isnt the competition in this space, it is Apple and ARM. Did you see the sales for the iPhone 6 in Anand's recent article?

But I dont want to derail this into a thread bashing Intel's mobile efforts, there are plenty of amd fans more than willing to do that. Point is, I dont think we should be so critical of AMD's console sales just because they are low margin. At this point, they are all that is keeping them alive.

AMD are a competitor like any other in the mobile/low power market, that they are targeting only a given segment of the market doesnt render them irrelevant.

They knew from the start that they wouldnt be competitive for 100-200$ MRSP offerings so they targeted the 200-400$ segment with 2C/4C Mullins wich was cut down for the purpose.

Competitivness was rendered moot by the practices you know, i mean with 30 millions subsided chips used in W8 items there was no ground left for any other W8 product, that s an amount of chips that must be at least 3X what AMD has targeted for the whole low power line in one year....

Still, in a dwindling W8 market we have some people arguing that it couldnt have had the slihtest influence for AMD financials and their low power APUs sales.

He is comparing an actual, marketable product against a prototype, so if anything the comparison should be beneficial to AMD.
 
I think the suitors are waiting for bankruptcy. With all that debt, AMD as a whole is worthless.

I am thinking maybe they are waiting to loot it in bankruptcy? Right now liabilities are substantial along with contracts with GloFo. Bankruptcy can wipe the contract out and negotiate liabilities down.

While I don't doubt Apple would be interested, I think they'd rather negotiate to get it without getting ALL of AMD. I cannot see Apple buying everything.

If anyone wants anything IP related, everything points to doing so if AMD goes bankrupt. Any workers others with more cash want is already gone.

One thing is sure, nobody wants the whole deal.
