I have been out of the loop for awhile. Is there paper/article that will get me up to speed on the difference between AMD processors? I was looking for a new proccessor for my ECS K7S5A. I see alot of designations I am not familiar with, such as, model 6, model 8, fsb 333, fsb 266. I know fsb refers to the front side bus speed, but don't understand the advantages of one over another.

Does anybody know of a good article that could explain this stuff?

Thanks.

First you need to know the limitations of the k7s5a, can it even take 333mhz fsb cpus? If not, I think it doesn't, so that rules out 333/400 mhz fsb cpus right there. The Model #s are not really what you need to know, though they would designate according to fsb and what not, as any 266mhz fsb cpu should be ok.

Your mainboard only supports FSB266 CPUs (I had it as well). The best CPU running at FSB266 is the Atlon XP 2200+, I think.

The fastest cpu you board can accept like others said is a 2600+ (266fsb) but those are hard to find so I hear.

Update your bios to the latest & grab yourself a 2400+ and you're good to go. :)

Thanks for the quick replys. I was not sure about the 266 FSB so that was a big help.
