AMD Processor driver

As part of setting up a new system, I ran across installing AMD's Cool and Quiet driver, which updates the Windows XP CPU in the hardware list to a different name (mainly, Athlon 64). Is this driver at all necessary? I'd rather use the one Windows provides, as I'm having trouble running the system with AMD's driver.

The CPU driver and cool-n-quiet drivers are 2 distinctly different things, you are aware of that correct? Because I've been using the CPU driver ver.1.1 10/16/03 with zero issues. I won't bother with tryiong cool-n-quiet because I crunch SETI 24/7 😉 I have heard without proper bios support the cool-n-quiet won't function properly so maybe that's the problem here?

When i go into my device manager and look at the Processor driver for my athlon 64, the processor is properly identified but the driver is from july 2002 and from microsoft. Should I update this driver to the latest one from AMD?
