There is a drive for my new AMD 64 processor on the disk that came with the motherboard. Anybody know if it is necessary (or performance enhancing) to install? I tried on one of the two computers I built, and it wouldn't boot past the initial Windows screen (but it wasn't a clean install, since XP somehow decided to accept a motherboard, cpu, memory, and video card swap without complaining about it).

thanks for the reply. I read up on cool and quiet, and while it has its merits, I didn't get the impression that it was necessary for operation or performance reasons. Given that the first time that I tried to install failed, is it worth pushing for?

He didn't say X2. But the X2 driver DOES have a very specific use, affinity....
