amd pricing

I know the sandy bridge release is just around the corner, jan 11th or so right? Does anyone know if the current pricing on amd chips will drop in conjunction with that release?

I am betting there will be a minor drop maybe. Not much as SB will be in tight supply and over priced for at least a month or so while supplies build up. Now I would expect more price drop on intels older line than anything from AMD.

Now when Llano and Bulldozer come out then I can see a bigger price drop on current AM3 cpus.

Thanks that is sort of what I figured.
I have motherboard and some other parts ordered, but I would hold out till the 11th or middle of the month of jan. Is the date intel gave for sandy bridge (the 11th) the day people will be able to order boards, or is that the day they will ship to the suppliers?

I would argue against that.. there may be minor drops but nothing huge. I mean Llano and BD chips are based on new sockets.. and demand for AM3 chips will continue for some time ahead.

He said "bigger", not huge. They mean two different things.

and I agree with his assessment. Small drops when SB comes out and larger ones before Bulldozer. Just like most AMD cycles, they will be dirt cheap before the new cpus launch. Maybe $30~40 range for dual core cpus and Phenom II around $80~90. Those are my guesses for rock bottom sale prices, not everyday prices.

I know what will probably happen. I will wait around till the 11th or 12th, and prices will not drop, and I will be tired of waiting and pull the trigger, and then on oh say the 15th they will slash them HAHAHHA
