The Inquirer is reporting that AMD will cut boxed processor prices on the 15th of October. The updated price list includes entries for the Athlon 64 4000+ and FX55, which will apparently debut at $729 and $827, respectively. Interestingly, the price list suggests that the 4000+ is a 2.4GHz chip with 1MB of L2 cache. The FX55 is listed at 2.6GHz, also with a 1MB L2 cache. The clock speeds and cache sizes correspond with early online 4000+ and FX55 listings with online retailers

So what would the difference between an FX-53 and a 4000+ be...? FX CPU's are unlocked, no? Any other difference whatsoever?

FX = Unlocked.

FX coming to the 939 genre, sounds sweet to me. DFI needs to hurry up though.

wow that makes the 3400 the nre price/performance king..... any word on how long it actually takes to filter out to the retail outlets usually? I was going to buy a 3200 but if I can get a 3400 for a few bucks more in 2 weeks Ill go with that. Also it seems the 3200 might actually be raising prices just a bit (its listed as $208 there, and most stores have it around $201)

I presume they wil be 90nm parts depending on if AMD has the process good enough to produce in bulk or not...I presume they will try out the 90nm process on the high price processor to save on having too much demand and not enough supply

They're coming; the 90nm S939 3000+ and 3200+ are available in VERY small quantities right now for ~$200 and ~$250, respectively... if you're hoping for a sub-$100 S939 processor, though, don't hold your breath.

Yeah same here. I was going to get a 754 socket cpu, but i heard AMD will eventually replace them with the 939.

hey..somehow i missed the important event that AMD introduced the 0.09u process.

Well...i am shopping for a socket 939 (max. $280-290 for CPU)..and i am glad they dropped the S939 A64 3500+ to a reasonable level.

Like others, i wait for socket 939 (Nforce 4 !) w/ PciE and the CPU for it....but now i read all these rather sobering reports of the 0.09u new AMDs ..that they are HOTTER and probably worse overclockers than the 0.13 parts.

How do i know that i get a 0.13u AMD A64 3500+ and NOT one of the (potential worse) new ones ??? I dont even know whether the socket 939 A64 3500 is available in 0.13u.

I am very looking forward to pci-ex and socket 939 - but the more i think and see reviews, the more i doubt my decision. The socket 939 3500+ is only 2.2 Ghz ....the socket 754 3400+ is 2.4 Ghz which sounds MUCH more attractive to me/

Also...i just read a preview of VIAs upcoming socket 939 board...and this thing is only *on par*, sometimes slower than the older boards.....so...i will probably spend a FORTUNE on the nforce4 board and spend premium for socket 939 - and at the end the chip will be SLOWER, and WORSE to overclock...i wont have any real-time advantage in shooting for socket 939,. pci-ex...rather the opposite. Am i just a stupid guinea pig for spending a lot of money on the 'newest' with no real life value?

Does anyone think the same ?

Btw. i plan to overlock in moderation (eg. hitting 2.5/2.6 or so if i can)

Looks like Newegg took them off their site or sold out. If I remember right the 3000 was around $169 and the 3200 was around $217 for the new 90nm socket 939.

Don't forget that the street prices are ~$30 below the current 20-Sep official pricing, so the cheapest s939 cpu will be near $130 once they start shipping in quantity.

Out of curiosity, when was the last "price cut"? And any idea on when the next one will be?

No the 3400 newcastle is almost the king, period, Beating both the 3500 and the 3400 clawhammer in every test and right there with 3800 and FX-53.. I have no idea why people like 939 so much. The 754 boards are better, more mature, and the processors are cheaper per performance.

I have a 3400+ Newcastle right now. It's nice having 99.9% of the power of an FX-53 in most apps. for half the price.
