I know it's the inquirer but if thats true thats pretty crazy. AMD must really be in demand for them to manufacture chips like that. And talk about effciency....

Heheh, doesn't this have to redefine their factory capacity then? Seeing as nothing can exceed 100% in terms of production (just a semantic debate).

Anyways, good to hear AMD is working at a high capacity. Means more chips available to all of us.

Just think what happens when Fab 36 comes up to full speed !

What does this mean besides more CPU's. Am I missing something here? Is AMD not currently meeting demands?

Yes they are currently meeting demands...but demand is relativly low, because their prices are relativly high....once FAB36 rams up, the hope is prices will drop, and demand will increase (to ofset the extra supply), it's really not that complicated.

Somehow, I don't think it's as simple as that. Fab36 cost billions. And it's not free to run it either. All the new salaries that must be paid, and recouping the money that went into building and tooling it. We may see price drops, but I don't think it will be due to Fab36 opening.

Once everything is settled down, AMD will be saving money. I t might take them a while to pay off the fab, but for one day they will be making money; or else they wouldn't have made it.

I meant 65 nm chips, and more supply, possibly meaning lower prices (not by a lot, but every bit helps). I know they are at 90nm for most of the plant, but part of it is testing the 65 nm process now on limited runs.

I think its more along the lines that when they only expect or "need" 100% from it, they're actually able to get 150%. They built the plant to give them 10, but its now giving them 15.

are u kidding? prices were much higher in the last 5 months due to AMD prdocution problems. But since march 2006 the lower clocked models from 3000+ to 3700+ have seen certain pricdrops. 3000+ available for 100Eur, 3200+ for 115Eur, 3700+ for 175Eur. That is cheap, imo and iam certain it will not drop much lower.

So Fab 36 will be exclusively 65nm then? Do you know if they are using 200mm or 300mm wafers at this new fab?

As much as everyone seems to want this to happen, it doesn't look like that is going to happen anytime soon.

Fab 36 is running mostly 90nm production currently and is a brand new fab so it's running 300mm wafer processing. It' also handling the simple bins from hwat I heard so basically Athlon 64's and Semprons, the Dual Cores are being handled at the old Fab 30.

That is awesome, I remember when AMD had a problem with Lack of production plants. Now they seem to b doing well...
