AMD Phenom or Intel i7... for intensive video editing

AMD's advantage is in cheapness, and if you aren't overclocking and need a lot of cheap cores, Thuban isn't terrible for the money, though a high-freq i7 would be faster. Intel really shines in the $200-300 pricepoint. At $100, you can't beat the Athlon II X4 and at $1000 the 980X does not blow you away compared to a 2S magny cours workstation. it's all perspective. overclockers favor the i7 because it's easy to run them very fast, they are faster per clock, run at lower voltage, etc. Not everyone has the same wants and needs and budget so there is no "best for every job for every buyer" system.

I think the worst case is Thuban is highly competitive and the retail price goes up 15% 😀
