AMD Phenom II 920 2.8Ghz Quad Core AM2+ Retail Processor $135

Nessism, the overclocks are pretty good depending on your mobo, ram and cooling (of course heh). I've personally hit 3.6GHz with my Biostar mobo (doesn't have as many BIOS overclocking options as others) but other people have hit higher.

I couldn't seem to find a decent motherboard w/a combo deal, but I did find a MSI DKA790GX motherboard & the Phenom II 920 for $236.99 AR.
Is that a pretty decent deal as well?

nice cpu, great price.
Either this or the 720 tri would be a great choice. I lean to the 720 tri core cause I would want to open up the 4th core, fun stuff I tell you 🙂

Yeah, but that's not always guaranteed. Might as well just purchase a PhII 920 and be guaranteed a fourth core.

Exactly. My 720 can't use the fourth core and it can't even overclock that well (3.1 on stock voltage, 3.2 pretty easily, 3.3 with substantially increased voltage on the CPU and NB/HT). Makes me wish I had gotten this instead. But I'm not sure it's worth replacing my 720 with a 920 just for that fourth core.

i am glad my board doesnt take 125watt cpus.

i wa stempted to buy this even though all i do is surf the web on my computer. haha

Newegg link here for only 100.00 more? They give a 70.00 discount on the combo. Both for 233.99. Motherboard normally sells for 139.99.

Any thoughts on this board with the 920? I am thinking about biting.

Quoted from [ H ]Enthusiast:
The Foxconn A79A-S BIOS is poorly laid out and simple features don?t work that are expected to be the norm in 2008. The JMicron RAID controller is buggy and sometimes a USB keyboard will not work at POST. Getting the board to overclock is a serious PITA. That said, it is a good Phenom overclocker if you can make your way through the frustration. It is tremendously stable at stock clocks.

I was thinking about getting that board myself, but I'm not sure I want to fight with an overclock. I may go with the Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD4P...~$244 for the combo when all's said & done.
