Pretty much confirmation that the new management has decided to extract real value from their patent porfolio. Between the licensing deal in China and these suits, they are serious about getting some licensing revenue in the door. Oblon is a heavy hitter in this space, especially around PTAB practice for IPR/CBM/PGRs. One of the Oblon dudes is industry leading for PTAB practice.

This makes sense because the article says some of the patents are already under IPR review. That means another company / individual has already challenged AMD's patents here. I would assume that it is LG, and that this is AMD enforcing the patent under review challenge in that IPR.

Also be aware this is an ITC Section 337 complaint. That means it only can stop the importation of infringing goods to the US, it can't do all of the stuff a full lawsuit and court decision could.

Thread title needs to be fixed, AMD didn't sue anyone. AMD has asked the ITC to conduct an investigation.

Incorrect.

Hey as long as it's legit, I'm all for it.

Suing over a patent on "a rectangle," however, is not something I ever want to see again. :D
But it's a rectangle man! It messes with our ability to compete if other companies can use age old geometric shapes!

Infringement is (broadly) to make, use, sell, import for sale. Using infringing goods is infringement. This is a pretty typical strategy to avoid suing a supplier you dont want to go to war with, by suing their customers instead. Patent trolls used to send out mass demand letters to anyone who bought certain printers or other consumer electronics because they alleged it was infringing thus using it was infringing. They changed some procedural rules that made this impossible to accomplish or to accomplish economically
