I noticed in the 'system buyer's guide' that all the cpus advised were AMDs

what are the major reasons to buy AMD over P4?

NX-bit support on the A64's, too :) I hear the Socket 754 Semprons will also have it, that's good news if it's true.

Exactly, click on the CPU/Chipsets tab and read an article or two, or search for a few dozen existing AMD vs. P4 threads.

i have a XP2500+/333 and a P4 3.2/800. I swear the XP2500+ is more responsive for interactive tasks. I guess it's the cache. Anyway, both are only running 512 MB PC2700 memory. I was hoping the hyperthreading might be a big deal, but so far not so much. (AMD is on Shuttle AN35NUltra, P4 is on Soyo SY-p3I865PE Plus Dragon 2 v1.0).

hmm, I guess it could also be the video card (128 MB GeForce 4 something). When it was is the AMD, the response wasn't as snappy as it is now that i replaced it with a 64 MB GeForce 2 MX). Doesn't make any sense to me. But the slower response was still not as slow as the P4.

oh yeah: AMD + MB price $150 AR (several months ago) vs. Intel + MB Price $220 AR (several days ago)

unclebabar, your are starving your 3.2 P4 if you are running PC2700 memory with it..should be running PC3200 ddr with it, and are you running in dual channel mode?
