AMD or Intel ?

Don't worry whoever you are, I'd be embarrassed to admit it too.
 
When speeds are relatively equal between them I prefer Intel as historically I've found their chipsets to be better. I've owned both though and I'm sure at some point down the road I'll probably have another AMD rig as a primary.

I like AMD now, but if they become an electronics supergiant like intel I guess i'll have to find another underdog to root for.

Really though, taking a poll here on AT where most of us have been following the hardware reviews doesn't tell us anything about AMD or intels popularity with the rest of the world.
 
My last box had AMD, my current box has Intel. Doesn't matter to me, whichever strikes my fancy at the time I build.
 
Which ever has the best mobos/price proformance at the time. The NF7-S distroyed all the intel mobo's at the time in terms of features, overclockability and stability. The processor itself was only 30-40 dollars cheaper.
 
I'll be the intel guy....I run dual 2.6 xeons

Disclaimer: I don't game, do mainly graphics/cad/3d work, and generally multitask amongst 5-6 such programs all the time.

Price/performance at most levels except the ultra high end (opteron 265-275), for what I do, intel has had for the past year and a half or so (built system almost a year ago)

the introduction of single socket, dual core chips from both AMD and intel has made or will shortly make such a distinction nearly impossible. Right now it looks like intel dual core will be a godsend for budget workstation builders, AMD X2 is a great thing for those with slightly more cash, and dual core opterons taking up the high end. current xeons probably don't have much of a niche except maybe a pretty narrow band between the X2 and the 265 or 270, depending on the application.

And who knows how this will change as prices settle and the dempsey dual core xeons come out next year

next upgrade will be between socket F opterons and dempsey xeons, whoever has the best price/performance at the time
 
I have bought AMD processors for the last 4 years or so...but only because I think they have been a better value for my money...but that could change and I would jump ship to Intel or whoever it is who makes superior product for less.

Brandy loyalty is for idiots.
 
Which ever will get me more bang for my buck. I'm not particularly partial to either one.
