Which chip should I buy? A AMD or an Intel? I've heard some bad things about AMD but has anyone had any probelms with them? So why do AMD chips overheat more often than Intel? Is it there size? Or they don't have enough cooling vents or whatever?

Chevy! ...oh wait, nm ;)

Both of them will work fine if you build them properly with good-quality parts. Start with your budget. Figure out how much you can afford, and then factor in a good case & power supply to start with. Now add your drives, operating system software, peripherals and whatever. Now see how much $$ you've got left over and ask "what's the best mobo/CPU combo for me for this many $$, I do mainly __________ (insert typical uses here)." HTH :)

Well, I have something more to say.
If money has any value to you, go with AMD. You'll pay a lot less for the same performance.
If performance is more important than cost, go with AMD64.
If money is no object and performance is everything, get dual Opterons. (Yeah, baby, yeah!)

I thought a title like this would be an instant lock!!! LOL!

Either AMD or Intel. Both are great. No problems with either like you described.
