AMD or Intel? (Or cyrix =P)

Hi all,

Though this might fit under another part of the forums besides off topic, I thought that this would be a good place to get alot of replies. So... what do you have in your system?

I have an AMD Athlon 600mhz.

Go AMD! Give Intel Hell!

lemme see, I have owned:

Intel 8088
Intel 486-DX250
Cyrix Pr300 MII
AMD K6-2 350@400
AMD K6-2 350@400
Intel Celeron 366@500
Intel Pentium 3 600@840
Intel Celeron 566@850

I don't have a strong preference either way. My next purchase will probably be Intel, mostly because I already have a nice Slot1 board, and the cost of buying a new K7 mobo would more than negate any cost advantage of AMD. However if were building from scratch right now I would definitely go AMD, the Athlons and Durons are a better deal on a performance vs cost basis.

Damn we're not listing out our comps are we?

Quad XEON 450/2MB
2x Dual PRO 200
PIII700e @ 1Ghz
PIII500e @ 700Mhz
PIII500
PII400
PII400
PII400
PII350
2x P233MMX

The list of what I've owned is ungodly.

I think I'm an Intel Guy, cause it was either free or DAMN, DAMN cheap.
Never got into AMD, however the Duron's are TEMPTING. Just letting things mature a bit.
I'm just going to get a laptop and abandon most gaming and such, with 1 exception, HL:CS.
Laptop will be Intel. Unless AMD can rock my socks.

Cyrix is a joke, and they're still around? Eesh.

Intel needs it's ACT together REAL quick, and quit trying to be GOD, and be a good company for the average junkie.

I now have a AMD T-Bird 900,was a Intel Cel-333a before that, but I started my first PC with a AMD chip so you could say I`ve come back home.

🙂

DABANHEE: Can you play Warcraft II on that Cyrix 200? Check this out. We had a game network going on, back when Warcraft II was REALLY BIG, and we used a Cyrix PR200 (75 X 2) with a MTech Mustang motherboard and the dumb thing would do the map editor but not the game itself. At first we thought software, so we reformatted but that didn't do any good. Next, we made a boot disk and boot up off of it and did the whole install on a clean drive with no-OS and tried to run it right off the boot disk and STILL nothing. We then UNDERCLOCKED THE CPU (66 X 2) and it STILL DID NOT WORK. We swapped out the CPU with a K6-II 200 and it worked!

So, we have this Cyrix 200 that sort of works and figure maybe it was the board. So we stick the Cyrix in a Shuttle HOT569 and tried Warcraft II in it AND IT DIDN'T WORK EITHER! Luckily Cyrix was doing their own warranty exchanges at this time, so we sent the CPU directly to them. They replaced it. We installed the replacement in the Shuttle and fired it up and it STILL DID NOT WORK!!!! AAAAAAAARGH!!!

😉

Otherwise, I'm thinking about getting a Joshua just to putz around with. 😀

AMD 500K6-2
Intel 486DX2/66 (iirc it's Intel, dunno for sure)
MIPS R4400
Intel 350P2 (work system)

Maybe I should make up "Heaters Inside" stickers?

Home: AMD Athlon 650 (current)
AMD 486DX2/80
AMD 486DX4/133
AMD K6 200
AMD K6-2 266
AMD K6-3 400

Work:

Intel P2-350
Intel P3-450
Intel P3-450
Intel P3-600
Intel P3-600 (temporary test box)

Yeah, that's 5 machines at work... it gets loud in here! 😀
