AMD or Intel die hard fanboy

I don't fit into any category listed. Historically most of my CPU's have been AMD (K5, K6, K6-2, Athlon Slot A & Socket A, Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Athlon FX, Opteron (no AM2 CPU's)) but I have also had Intel CPU's in that time (486, Pentium, Pentium Pro, PII, PIII (still using Dual Slot 1 P3 1GHz), P4 (Northwood 2.4c), Pentium-M, Core Duo).

I buy whatever CPU fits my current needs & how much i'm willing to spend (normally £200-£500) so i'm not Intel or AMD fanboy and i'm not a "bang for my buck" purchaser.

I am not going to buy another CPU until H2 07 at which time I will decide if K8L or 45nm C2Q would suit my needs.

I prefer AMD's as long as they are somewhat competitive. If not, Intel FTW. Little things count too...look at the nice HSF AMD puts on their high-end x2's and all Opterons...look at the garbage Intel uses for cooling. I have read post after post about how some users almost snapped their mobos putting on the Intel coolers.

I know it sound stupid but I always like AMD I don't really think I am amd fanboy but AMD offers a good price. Now I see Intel got some good price for C2D to lure people away from AMD regardless of how fast cpu they are.
Should I ditch 5 months old AMD 4800+ X2 for C2D?

If you have money to burn and need the performance, yes. Otherwise, don't bother. You won't be able to carry over your board or RAM onto the new system . . . ditto for the video card now that I think about it.

I'm a performance fan period.

I have X2, and C2D systems, and I think they are both excellent systems.

If I were to build a system from the ground up, I'd build another C2D rite now. However, I wouldn't get rid of an X2 for a C2D system.

I'd take performance over brand name anyday (unless quality dictates). Though 900-1200 dollars for DDR2, mobo, and a C2D is more than I am willing to spare for performance I don't need.

Intel, *AT THE MOMENT*, rules the high-end and midrange. AMD looks very good once you get below $175.

I've only ever had AMD (well, IBM was my first CPU) but right now I would go for Core 2 Duo if I wanted dualcore - the price, performance and low power consumption make it a great deal. I just happened to buy CPU's at a time when AMD were the better choice, but I'd switch camps in an instant when i see the other do better.
