AMD Opteron processors

Depends, are you talking about Single or Dual-Core Opterons? The Dual-core chips are great overclockers.
 
And single core? I'm just trying to get a feel of what their performance would be like. Why are they mainly used in servers and not in home desktops? Their price seems to be about the same as that of an X2.

For example, how does this one compare to an Athlon 64 3000+?

I'm thinking of getting one of these for my next upgrade. But I'm not sure about their features etc. Do they have all the features that the Athlon 64 supports? What bugs me is that I visit many computer forums, but I've never seen someone use a socket 939 Opteron for their gaming rig even though they're supposed to be very powerful and extremely overclockable. :\
