AMD Opteron 4P SETI@Home Benchmarks + shameless news plug

Thanks, Adul 🙂

2:13 per WU, on a 4 CPU system, works out at just over 40 Work Units in one day from one machine!

now imagine what the 64 Bit version of the client would do 🙂

I don't know if that's good or bad since I don't fold seti. what would a normal system do ?

Well say a standard 2Ghz P4 does a WU in about 3hrs, then that's about 8 per day. So over 40 from one machine is pretty nice! 😉

A dual Xeon 3Ghz does about 20 per day

Cool ,thanks Adul🙂

Why is is that we always get some narrow minded idiot saying that SETI is useless though?:|
Its obvious what its uses are!

Thanks for the link...interesting.

I'm not overly impressed. A single P4 on a 875 with HT will do about 18 wu's/day. A dual P4 HT system, if available, would prob do ~36 wu's/day...not far behind a quad Opteron. It's going to take an all 64-bit environment for those Opterons to shine IMHO.

Yes, I don't understand why some people can be so narrow minded. It seems so obvious that research into astronomy and ET can be just as useful as research in particle accelerators or cancer or alzheimer's. People that put down others' projects to make theirs look better are stupid and just have an ego problem or something. :disgust: (that's supposed to be a disgusted icon though it looks more constipated than disgusted :|)

You can call him Ray,, or you can call him Jay,,or you can call him RJ,, or you can call Him Johnson,, But don't call him RJ Johnson Jr.

Actually, I'd be amazed if a dual P4 HT system was able to output 36 a day... SETI is very bandwidth intensive and the fact that the Opteron system is able to go 4 at a time without losing a beat is pretty much unheard of.

i wonder what work unit they do their seti benchmarks with...? i've seen very few results as slow as theirs in my log
