Hey everyone. I ordered an AMD Opteron 165 from Tiger Direct on December 5th when it was in stock. Now I go back to check what is going on and it is out of stock. I need to have my rig built by Dec. 29th at the latest. Any of you who have bought from Tiger Direct --> am I going to get this chip by then? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I wouldn't put down Tiger for this, I am sure this happened to quite a few people. The 165 is in huge demand at this time, Tiger was not the only one to have this happen, you can't find it anywhere right now.

Same thing happened to me. I called, they said it was in stock when I ordered, but out of stock before mine shipped. If you want it by Christmass I'd order an X2.

Any other suggestions? Let me explain, I am building a computer over winter break. As I go to school away from home, I need to have all the parts at home before I leave to come back to school. Therefore, I need to get the part before I come back to school on Dec 30. So question is... have faith that the chip will arrive... or get another chip? Suggestions?

Should I cancel my opteron 165 order and get the x2 3800+ from zipzoomfly for 322? Or is that too much of a sacrifice? Also, what is the diff between the x2 toledo and manchester. Any help is appreciated.

Or, is the opteron so good I should hold out?

Optys are rare as chicken teeth, if I needed my rig by the end of the month I'd get an X2.

I did the same in the UK with a company called tech store, rang them up to check it was in stock, placed the order over the phone.

What do they do? ****** me over and then not even bother to inform me that they'd sold my CPU elsewhere.

So I will just wait until the end of the week. If there is no update, then I will go for the x2 from zipzoomfly. Any suggestions on whether I need to update the stock heatsink/fan and such? Also, how much performance am I losing?

Or how about spending a little more to get the opteron dual core that is a step up? How much does that run?

How much better is the opteron 165 over the x2 3800 anyway? Will I really notice a difference. I want this rig to last me for a few years.. I am not a gamer, but I do a lot of multimedia and multitasking.

So update. I cancelled my order with tiger direct. Ordered the OEM version from Monarch... added the 3 year warranty (I want to cover my ass) and got the Thermaltake AMD K8 Venus 7+. Also did 3 day shipping

$354.77

Not bad... hopefully it actually ships this time. A few questions though. What kind of warranty are we talking about here? It is obviously not from AMD. I believe monarch is good, so I am not worried. Also, I have the antec sonata II case with that wierd duct system. I also have a 90mm fan to put in that duct. Will I have a problem with the duct and 90mm fan and the thermaltake heatsink? Also, I have corsair valueselect CAS 2.5 ram 1 gig. Will I be able to overclock? Should I overclock? Thanks everyone for your help.

I got my opteron 165 OEM for 299 at monarch. Monarch did increase the price though.
