AMD Opteron 146 @ 3Ghz on Air - Finally!

Well, at last, was able to put this cpu in my main rig, and so far so good. Priming away LargeFFTs/max heat test for outright CPU stability.

So far 32+ hours without errors, and will keep it running for another 12+, and then do SmallFFTs and Blend tests for another 24+hours each.

Using 166 memory divider for now, but still at 250mhz (DDR500), ain't shabby. I'll see if my ram can go up and use the 180 divider after the above tests are complete.

Some basic info on this setup:

Damn, I'm jealous.

I'm only getting 2.5ghz stable @ .075 V over default. Its a CAB2E chip though, they don't seem as good at overclocking. This is only on the stock heatsink, but I have the stock dual core hsf coming in this week (I'm not one to spend $35 on a cooler for an extra 100 or 200mhz, or not even that, "just to have it run cooler" no thanks).

You are at 250htt, but at 3ghz and 10x multi, wouldn't you be at 300htt? Or is cpu frequency and HTT frequency somehow separate on DFI boards?

Yes, you're right 300htt, but memory running at 250mhz. My mistake.

Not interested in anything but air cooling to be honest. Too much power usage anyway, so I don't need a compressor or pump to keep suck up juice.

haven't even bothered to push it farther. not all CAB2E are bad overclocks but your YMMV

52C is pretty hot for your cooling i think... i get 57C with the same settings and only the stock heatsink. Then again, the side of my case is off and i have an 80 blowing on the heatsink.

My rig is inside my case and I'm getting 44C loaded dual priming large FFT's with a 170 Opty @ 1.45- 1.46v.

I love my Zalman 9500!!

Personally I like to see lower temps. What is your idle temp w/ 1.52v?

let's see some small fft!

i've had an old opteron at 3.0 run 7+ hours of large fft and then error out of small fft in 5 seconds lol...

but 32+ hours is pretty darn good for large fft...

my money is on that it's stable but if not, i'd guess a .025 voltage bump to get it stable!

Less temps would get him stable too. These opties are temp sensitive. 52C with an XP120 means something is weird with the airflow.

I notice with nearly every system I build (air cooled), that idle temp is 10C higher than ambient and load temp is 20C higher than ambient. Mobo temp is usually just a few degrees higher than ambient when inside the case.

If all these numbers jive, I know my temps are about as good as I'm going to get on air.

Anyone else with some comparisons??

that temp seems about right considering its the ultra-d. 1.52v showing in windows so whats vcore set to in bios, 1.575v?

Will run SmallFFT for sure, but funny thing is in the past I was always able to run SmallFFTs for hours, and LargeFFT would fail in 5 seconds.

he's on a dfi as well so hes taking the windows reading of vcore which always reads ~.05 lower than what is actually set.
