AMD open source drivers 4.5 years later

So, its been 4.5 years since AMD committed to open source drivers.
Where are they? what came out of it? Any chance of seeing a good open source driver on the desktop anytime soon?

i dont use linux at all so i dont know how helpful those are.

and according to this http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTA0MTY looks like they are having issues with trying to release some stuff due to legal issues.
