looking to GAME and gonna try to over clock for the first time. Im considering the Geforce 7800GTX KO 512mb video card... Need help on the AMD CPU, Motherobard and Ram.

Suggestions will be great help.....

Athlon64 X2 4200+ CPU
Asus A8N-E NF4 Ultra motherboard
2GB of OCZ, Corsair, Kingston (ValueRAM is good enough, quantity over latency at this point in time)

You could get a lower X2 or only 1GB of RAM, but since you are considering a $700 videocard, I adjusted suggestions accordingly.

Yeah what ^^^^ said also things to consider do you need a monitor, can you grab any parts from your old/current comp?

i currently have a sony trinitron 21" Great monitor.. looking to spend about 700 to 900 cuz the 7800GTX is gonna break the bank a bit..

pci-e

Epox EP-9NPA Ultra $110
AMD 3700+ SD or Opteron 148 $220
2 gb OCZ platinum $230
Case, PS, HDD $240

That totals $800

I would go with the single core for now so that you can fit 2gb ram into your budget, that would provide the best bang for your buck right now for gaming. You could then upgrade to a dual core chip when more games can utilize the extra core, and prices should be lower for the dual core chips by then

Suggestions for 2GB ram instead of core for "ease of upgrade' is just ridiculous.

This is what you want:

Asus A8n32 - Wait a bit, it will be in stock soon, and its definately worth it. - $200
Opteron 165 or X2 3800. $300-$399. You can opt for the higher Opteron 170 if nothing else is in stock. This thing OCs like crazy.
Use some of your left over bits and pieces from your old rig. and Buy anything else you dont have.

This will give you the absolutely BEST system possible within your budget. Alternatively, you can go for a single core processor and get some other new stuff (HD, Case, w/e)

i think i found my cpu.. Ill have to ask family for early christmas Money....

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor - Retail $497.00

now in searh of a motherboard

thanks for your help...

Why spend so much on a video card? I would just get a 7800GT. Anything over that is not reasonably priced at all. Also, unless you are doing heavy multitasking and/or using multi-threaded applications, I wouldn't bother with a dual-core CPU. I would just get an Opteron 144 and overclock it.

ok thanks for the help to all of you.

tell me what you think of this paired up.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model

That blows your $700 budget real quick🙂, if your set on dual core (won't help for gaming) get the opteron 165 for just over $300. The 165 has the same 1mb L2 cache and will overclock as well or better than the x2 4400 and save a couple of hundred bucks.

For mobo the best overclocker is DFI and I highly recommend it.
The new ASUS mobo is cool as well

My suggestion to spend $ on the ram vs. dual core is based on price to performance and the OP's stated budget, has nothing to do with ease of upgrade. The OP said he had $700-800 to spend on everything but the GPU, and your suggestion is to spend $500-600 on just the mobo and CPU?😕 thats ridiculous. I'm sure you have suggestions on how to get Case,PS,ram,HDD,optical drive(s) and OS for $200

And I agree that the $700 video card is serious overkill, a 7800gt 256mb is plenty
