Well I am about to purchase a new setup in about 3 hours or so from new egg and wanted to make sure everything I am buying is compatible.

I just bought a 6800GT (AGP) last week so I need to make sure that the mb I get is compatible (yes I know to make sure the MB has agp) BUT with all of the latest PCI-E and SLI it gets confusing..

to go with that?

I looked at the DFi LanParty but it said that it was PCI-e..any ideas?
 
id reccomend a venice core if youre upgrading now
check gigabyte out, im pretty sure they still sell AGP boards
also just check newegg for boards with AGP slots and pick gigabyte, msi, or dfi

Okay your reply bothered me..you said "im pretty sure they still sell AGP boards" does this mean that agp is becoming a thing of the past? Should I trade my agp card in for a PCI-e and get a PCI board?

lol no, AGP will be around for at least the next two years. Don't worry about it.

Definately get a Venice core, or at least a Winchester, and make sure it's the 90nm process. And for motherboards, I recommend MSI, DFI, Asus.
 
The Clawhammer core is just an older core that comes in 130nm process, and operate at higher voltage, and hence hotter temp.

While the Venice core is the newest core that comes in 90nm process and has numerous enhancements added to the core, and

as a bonus it may OC better, depending on the particular CPU that you get.
 
and the winchester is new or old? basicly what I am trying to figure out now is wich to get..Venice, ClawHammer or Winchester.

Either is fine... the preferred 939 AGP overclocking mobos happen to be NF3-based, though.
Here's a short list of recommended 939 AGP boards:

Epox EP-9NDA3J/9NDA3+
Asus A8V-Deluxe
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
Soltek SL-K8TPro-939

Unfortunately, DFI never made an AGP 939 board.


If you're not into overclocking, you could probably get by on something even cheaper.
 
Think im going to go for the MSI K8N Neo2 Plat, only because I have had good luck with MSI and Nforce (with a previous amd chip i had a while back)

Are you sure? I am a VIA s939 mobo owner, and I would recommend a nf3 board such as MSI K8N Neo2 Plat.

From your sig, your mobo's an ABIT

My friends uses the Asus A8V-Deluxe without any issue,

and the Via's memory bandwidth's better than NF3's.

i have the same chipset on an Abit board, works great, no problems overclocked or at stock speeds..

I first started out with the Asus A8V-Deluxe in the begining and it was returned after one month because it was simply too much trouble, then I picked up this ABIT in a local computer store with no choice.
Anyway, I think the VIA and nF3 would be the same performance wise since the memory controller in on the CPU, but other smaller stuff such as it's Gigibit lan is mount on the PCI bus just doesn't compare to the nF3.
