First of all, will both of these fit on a desktop S-754 motherboard?

If yes, which is the better CPU?

yes both will fit in a desktop s754 motherboard, but not sure if you'll need a bios update for either. where can you find a 4000 Newark?, i have only seen the 3700. i've read about people running the 3700 newark @2800mhz+ on air, but only if you can find one.

Also, do you know if a cooler for a desktop can fit on a lidless chip? Might need modding done to it.

The 4000+ Newark runs at 2.6 Ghz, essentially a San diego core and 1 MB cache and also based on 90nm :D. Newegg lists it in stock for $ 360. Equaling the desktop 4000+ in price but with more horses.

nice find, to bad they don't have a 3700 newark, also does any know if Thermalright XP-90 will fit a DTR processor?

It'll fit if you remove the retention bracket.. Just don't squeeze to hard, and you'll be fine :).

If you live in Europe, check out this site, they can always tell you where to get anything the cheapest :).

Yea, they don't even feature a 4000+. I only found newegg keeping a Newark 4000+ and its not exactly cheap due to the risks involved, titless.

$360 is kinda steep, i looking to upgrade my 3200 newcastle, it's running @2550mhz(255x10), i've been looking for a 3700 newark, with no luck.

are there any reviews about this chip: Turion 64 Mobile MT37 Lancaster far as overclocking goes, also i was considering this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103560
i have a DFI nf3, so i really want a chip that has some OCing potential.

There is an MT40 too, however, i don't think either of them would be faster than a 3700M or 4000M. That saying because of the price, the MT37 is much cheaper than the 4000+ and so is the MT40.

I dunno about OCing of the turion but because all AMD chips lately top 2.9 Ghz at max on air cooling, i bet you can take a 2.0 Ghz mobile chip to that level. That would mean 280 MHz FSB, far too much than what most RAMS would like, so there will be a compromise.

Don't get a Lancaster if you want to overclock. Most Lancaster's I've seen BARELY reach 200 MHz above stock speeds stable..
Over on xtremesystems.org, someone put phase on one, and didn't even gain 600 MHz over stock speed...

thanks for the heads up on the lancaster, i was thinking about getting the 3700 clawhammer DTR, the 4000 newark is out of my price range. any thoughts or comments on what kind of OCer it might be?

Running at 2.6 Ghz, the 4000+ Newark is already faster than any non-FX single core CPU in the Athlon line-up. Even though its out of your range, you should remember that its the only S-754 CPU based on 90nm process. The 3700+ DTR based on the 130nm should still reach 2.8Ghz. As mentioned earlier, on air cooling, you'll be lucky reaching 3 Ghz but tahts the end of it.

I have my eyes set on a 4000+ only because its 90nm.. lol

That chip looks like it might have a pretty good chance at overclocking past 3.0. It's 90nm and has SSE3 too but the price is just a bit high. I would rather take my chance with an Opteron 939 single or dual core chips right now. It depends though if you already have the motherboard.

Hehe I would like to see the results that someone gets with this chip.. just for curiosity's sake ;)

Does a sub $ 250 Operton perform well in games and applications to its similar priced desktop?

This thread on the DFI forums has lots-o-information about the Newark 4000+. Personally, I think $350 for a CPU with the specs of a $800+ FX-55 chip seems like a deal to me (not to mention it's overclocking potential--3.0GHz has been reached!). Now if I only had $350...
