AMD Needs Your Help - Driver Feedback Requested

don't know if a driver is responsible for this but
First thing I noticed right off the bat, the CPU throttles, badly. When the iGPU comes under any load the CPU throttles down to 3.0Ghz, no matter what overclock settings you have configured, no matter what energy saving options you have disabled. This of course presents an issue while doing most gaming. I installed the R7 250 and configured dual graphics and still, the CPU would throttle. The only way I found to not make it throttle when gaming is to install a discrete graphics card as primary and not use dual graphics, which nullifies the benefits.

is there a way to stop this behavior?

Sam,
the drivers' team REALLY needs to get on top of the infamous "system hangs when monitor going to sleep" That supposedly was fixed on cat 12.6 and 12.8, but it is back in cat 14.7.

Hello alexruiz (everyone),

We am aware of the "sleep of death" issue; in fact, I have personally reported the issue to the Driver Team which in turn has confirmed that they're aware of it as well as investigating the issue.

Thank you for your feedback

So far so good with 14.7rc3 in rig below.Just assembled over the week end. Any benefit going back to 14.4?

No benefit besides you might have lower temps and leakier Mantle.

Sam, when is AMD going to get an updated WHQL Driver out? Its been forever and I still get the occasional idle BSOD that has happened on multiple cards over the months.

Thanks Rvenger. Lower temps is NOT a problem with these new EK waterblocks. Max temp in the short time I have run them is 40C.

Back to the OPS post. I will fill out the form if I notice any anomalies.

I'll put in a report for this, but post it here too. When installing catalyst drivers on my desktop system (in my sig below) it bricks windows. The reason is it tries to re-install *ALL* AMD drivers, not just the video drivers. I have to manually tell it not too install the AHCI drivers. Otherwise it installs drivers that are not compatible with my motherboard. I know others with 7xx series motherboards that have the same issue.

Just want to point out here that I bought a GTX 980, but I wouldn't have if the wake on sleep and terrible multi-monitor issues that I've been experiencing weren't so damn infuriating. If Nvidia's multi-monitor support turns out to be just as poor I might come back. If it turns out to be significantly better, I might never come back. If it turns out to be worse, I'll definitely come back but will still be pissed off if things haven't improved when I do. I'm sorry if this seems like a bit of a troll post, but driver issues amount to something like 50% of my decision.

Hello everyone,

I have a few updates for you:

1) Special Submission Form: The submission period ended on September 12; that being said, I'm sure you have noticed the form is still open and wanted to let you know we are still collecting your feedback to help us improve our Catalyst Driver Suite.

2) New Driver Availability: At the moment, I don't have the exact date for when the next Beta Driver (or WHQL Driver) will be released. I promise you that I will notify you as soon as I can by starting a new post here.

3) Your Feedback: I can't thank you enough for your feedback. I have received numerous PMs, emails, dxdiag/log files, links, images from numerous members. In turn, I have sent everything to the Driver Team and other team members in development.

I can assure you that your feedback is being investigated, that the information you have posted here and shared with us through the submission form in very important to us - we are listening and we value your feedback immensely.

Thank you

No date on next WHQL is depressing. Since last catalyst WHQL (April) Nvidia lauched 3 drivers WHQL and 2 graphics cards. :\

Even the last beta in the AMD site is more than 1 month old. What the heck you guys are doing?

Weren't the 14.8 WHQL drivers released at the end of August?

I'm not 100% sure since I'm running the latest beta drivers and I'm perfectly happy with them....but I'm pretty sure the 14.8's were released around August.

Thanks for the update Sam.
There is another one that while not an issue, personally I find it infuriating:
HDMI scaling. Why does HDMI output defaults to 15% scaling? Make it 0%!

Gaming Evolved is telling me I'm up to date with 14.7RC3.

I feel lonely being the only person on these forums that doesn't have an issue with AMD drivers. 😛

@DiogoDX, deferred rendering games need profiles so driver AA will work. Basically the game needs to tell the GPU which parts of the scene are OK to run antialiasing on. Otherwise the driver will just try to AA everything and cause a mess. The problem nowadays is that developers are lazy, and don't do the work themselves. Obviously it's not feasible for AMD's driver team to do this for every game.

Nvidia has more support, but I think they've stopped providing AA profiles for games which don't ship with them, too. At this point it's only dedicated Nvidia users supporting driver AA in games.

@Sam, driver support for downsampling should be AMD's #1 priority right now, software feature wise. Please shoot this up the ladder: people have been crying for this feature for ages now.

Not sure where you pulled those from, but the most current AMD currently has posted at the WHQL 14.4s and the beta 14.7rc3s.

Agreed. Perhaps we should get a petition going? ^_^

How about downscaling/downsampling?
We have clamoured so much in the past years and Nvidia finally listened. Would be good if AMD were to listen, too 😉

Hello everyone,

No need for a petition please 🙂 We are aware of downsampling and numerous other features our customers have requested.

Update: Nvidia is even worse. [redacted]

Profanity isn't allowed in the technical forums -- not to mention the fact that you are not even remotely on topic for this thread. Confine your complaints to the other one you already started.
