AMD MP2000+ CLOCK MULTIPLIER ISSUE

Both the clock speeds of my MP2000+ SHOULD BE @ 1.67GHZ. They have always been 1.26. Clock multiplier in BIOS is set to "AUTO". Even when set to highest level, same result. Suggestions? Also, stock CPU FANS run the CPU's hotter than I would like at idle (cpu1) 127 and (cpu2) 123 degrees respectively. They have not failed yet though. Suggestions on fans that would be the same size but with better performance. NO WATER COOLING PLEASE. UPDATE: I moved the case around for better air flow and took off the cover. I managed to get it down 10 degrees for both CPUs

I went into BIOS into the "CPU/PCI HOST CLOCK" setting. I set it to the highest option. I was able to reach a clock speed of 1.46GHZ but the computer thinks it's a 1700+ as opposed to a 2000+, wierd but faster so I don't care. No section there in BIOS for FSB settings. The only problem with this setting is that is raises my CPU temps about 10 degrees again.

Multiplier is at 12.5 and bus at 133? Could you give the temps in Celcius.

what brand mobo are you using...if it is a Gigabyte, try setting the jumper on the mobo to 133, instead of the default 100 as it is shipped with.

brand of mobo is MSI K7D MASTER. CPU-Z REPORT: MULTIPLIER: 12.5 FSB: 100.7 FOR BOTH CPU's

is there a jumper setting for your mobo, cause it's sounds like the FSB hasn't been set properly...check in your user manual if this setting is availible.

Just a question what chipset does that board use?

The K7d Master does have FSB setting in the BIOS. It goes from 100- 150Mhz in several increments.

Apparently, there is a jumper. JFSB. Near the jumpers for PWRSW RST, ETC. New problem is, after changing jumper to "133", upon reboot, POST is OK. DMI POOL DATA AND IRQ CHECK OK. THEN SCREEN GOES BLACK, NOTHING HAPPENS. WINDOWS DOES NOT BOOT. :(

ummm, if you have changed your FSB in bios first before setting the jumper you will automatically overclock the cpu...probably by a fair amount.

try setting the bios option to AUTO first and then set the jumper to 133mhz.

maybe you should have read the user manual before you set up the system, most good technicains and enthusist seem to understand this....this problem seems to be a id-10-t error

thanks that worked. Multiplier of 12 seems to give me 1.60GHZ. 12.5 makes the system reboot after "verifying DMI POOL DATA", then locks up. Oh Well.

Did you set the CPU/PCI HOST CLOCK back to default before you set the jumper to 133?

Umm I wasn't really name calling, I just called it like I saw it was...such basic errors for somebody how is A+ Certified (I am too).

have you checked to make sure you HSF unit is correctly fitted and that thermal paste has been applied correctly (if you are using the stock HSF unit, use some nail polish remover to clean of the factory thermal pad, they don't work all that well).

other than that, check all of the apg/pci ratio's make sure they are correct and that you aren't still overclocking the FSB.

Doesn't necessarily mean a thing.

reset your bios settings to default then make sure your jumper is in the correct position on the board for 133mhz fsb operation. The correct position and location of that jumper will be found some where on the manual for the board. I'm guessing that you have monkeyed with some bios settings so you will want to reset the bios to defaults and then set that fsb jumper to the 133 fsb position on the board.

Your problem seems to stem from your basic lack of understanding of how a clock speed is derived (multiplier X FSB = Clockspeed) had you done the math 12.5x100.3=1260 allowing for the .3 mhz that most FSB's actually run at. 12.5x133.33333 will get you into the 1.67 ghz area. Those two calculations should have made it immediately obvious where you were going wrong.

Not trying to give you a bad time but you simply skipped some important steps like reading the Manual. Every board has differences and you can't possibly know what they are unless you have read the manual.
