AMD Mobile CPUs?

Hey I've noticed alot of people are building PC's using AMD Mobile CPUs... Why is that? I know that P4 Mobiles arnt as good as P4s so I would think that AMDs are similar? Anyone wanna shine some light on this for me?

The only difference between the desktop and mobile barton is that the mobile can run the rated speeds on less voltage which is the result of handpicking the "cream of the crop" chips for mobile use. That due to the need for less heat and voltage in a notebook for extended battery life ect. So, subsequently, the mobiles tend to reach stellar speeds compared to their desktop counterparts. Oh, they are also unlocked unlike the desktop part so that goes along way when limited by ram ect.

To add to that, some dual processor boards can use the mobiles in dual configuration without any modifications to the bridges. I had 2 2400 mobiles running 2.3Ghz @ 1.65v in a server. Just picked up a 2200+ mobile for my workstation 🙂
