This offer is only available to either (A) a system builder or reseller of Microsoft software, or (B) an employee of a Microsoft retail partner. Complete eligibility details available at time of purchase.
I wonder how they vet if you're a self-employed system builder. My friend and build lots of systems for resale, but we're not incorporated. Can anyone recall from the last one what they need to see as evidence of qualification, if anything? That last part about "eligibility details ... at time of purchase" sounds like a setup for getting screwed.

I wonder this myself. I'd hate to make a 3 hour drive just to get screwed.

Ive been to each tour thus far and have had NO problems with my ficticious business name. They didnt make an effort to check.

I don't think the deal is really that hot... the bundle kind of sucks, specially since the processor is so cheap and the board is too. The only thing worth it is Vista Ultimate, but you can buy that OEM and not be too far off the deal and stay home that day.

That's exactly what I did or didn't do...Besides the Vista otherwise the rest of the bundle is not that all enticing!

Requiremnts to attend/purchase - Check your States dept of Revenue and see the requiremnts for registering yourself as a small business. It costs about $100 total in IL (including a $60 newspaper ad). They give you a stat tax ID in IL, and that's all they wanted for the tech tour last year.

Reason to go - I went a few years and the event is worth a reasonable drive (for me it was only 40 minutes). They do give away t-shirts and they had a drawing from all the vendors. Drop a card in a bowl at each vendor table and they do drawings. Last year they also gave away a 64 MB jump drive with the presetnations and a mic/headset (I use it for BF2142 and it works fine). They do have quite a few vendors there (Ati - a given this year, Sapphire, Creative Labs, Tyan, SuperMicro, Enermax, MSI, Asus, etc) so you can get neat free stuff from them (key chains and the like) and also see some new technology.

Value of the bundle - Since CompUSA is clearancing software, Vista can be had at 40-50% off if you have one local. Taking that into consideration, i didn;t think it was worthwhile. Side Note - I will be visiting CU next week to check on price. I may buy a few and sell them here at the cost plus shipping (to give back to the community and all). I'm a bit worried noone will want them...

Sorry for the long post,
EH

I got the bundle last time and I didn't have a tax ID or any connection with small business, I worked for a reseller...

not so hot of a deal...sadly

I've been to all the Tech tours but not this year...nothing exciting to check out.

Last year was ok, only because of the nice food they served out.🙂
