AMD k7 Thunderbird 1Ghz Socket

Hey, I recently purchased a T. Bird 1Ghz chip for around 500 bucks. Says MADE IN MALAYSIA and has BLUE/GREEN Glassy core. The problem here is that after getting all my parts gathered, and assembled my computer, it turned on for like 50 secs and I started smelling something nasty. That hit me, so, I turned off the computer, took the peltier (CyberCooler, and It was installed in right direction), I took the CPU out, it got BURNT. The bottom part where it says WARRNTY VOID IF REMOVED sticker was burnt and the GLASSY core was grinded. My motherboard is Asus A7v, and I did not mess with any of the jumpers. I made sure that all jumper was in manufacturer's default, meaning it was jumperless. I mean, thank goodness I am getting it replaced, but I have no SLIGHT idea what caused the burn. If anyone could reply, it would be a major kicker in this situation.. I'm just afraid I might as well burn the other replacement out...

Forgot to mention, I do not know if it is normal for it to happen, but the CPU gets EXTREMELY hot like after 3 ~ 4 secs when turned on.
 
im pretty sure his peltier was backwards I dont see why the chip would burn if he had mashed the core while installing it.
 
No, actually, I did not get it backwards, because the peltier PANEL was assmebled when I got it. I mean, it was something that regular peltier wasn't like. It was more like, regular FAT heatsink plus the Peltier panel attachched on the bottom of it.

I had two powerlines for the heatsink, one for the FAN just like a regular heatsink, and the other for the Peltier cooling. I turned on the computer without the proc, and touched the peltier panel getting cold. So, there is no way that I could have put it backwards.
I hear that CORE has to be &quot;PERFECT.&quot; I might have CHIPPED a bit of the core at the corner now that I think about it. If any other reasons are around, please reply. Thanks.
 
yeah you really have to check that...i dont even know why they bothered putting those little foam things on...i had to rip em off for my HSF to be seated properly...i had read about ppl (Kyle from HOCP) destroying his 1ghz cpu like that, so i was extra careful
 
Screw it i've already burnt out two 1ghz procs. Damn things are to damn hot. Gettin a duron cuz this is just absurd.
