The price on the page is $15, and shipping is $11, for a total of a luke warm $26 for a 133mhz chip

Wow prodigy, nearly 1600 posts!

Anyways, a while back you could buy the extremely failed Cyrix Joshua chip at like 533mhz for about 35 bucks.

why would you buy a k5???? I had one and it REALLY blew a big one... 12 bucks aint worth it. I remember I bought a whole pc with a k5 32megs of ram and 1 gig hard drive for 90 bucks.

Just had to come in and read if anyone wanted to pay more than $0.10 for a k5-133. If so I have a 286 PC I'd like to sell for $800. LOL

Wow, I actually know a guy that still runs a k5. He can play simcity 3000 on it but that and most everything else is pretty slow.

K5s are like ancient and weak. This is a cold deal for a CPU. You can find Pentium Socket 7 CPUs on the web for the same or just a bit more.

Hey! Go crap on a thread in some other site's forums, not here!

At the time I posted, they were $12.00 each, and shipping was $3.00.

As for the speed of a K5, don't look at me, check with folks that have the speed page up:

http://teamanandtech.dhs.org/speed.asp

Apparently, the K5 has some special instruction sets in it that are not included in other CPUs, giving it an advantage specifically for the RC5 application; you'll note that it has a higher index than a PII, PIII or even an Athlon!!!

This might be a deal for people that's can scrap parts together for cracking. For you people that are not interested? Please don't crap on the thread. It might not be useful to you, but it could be a treasure for other people.

"Thread cr@pping" is a concept that applies to the For Sale/For Trade forum. Here on Hot Deals if someone has had a bad experience with a proposed hot deal, has newer information or a better deal then they are encouraged to post the information. The prohibition on posting negative information in For Sale/For Trade is a recognition and protection of the original poster's vested interest in the sale of the offered merchandise. You don't have a vested interest in the sale of these k5-133's, do you? If you do that would be self promotion which is frowned upon outside of For Sale/For Trade.

Off to check out the rc5 speed page to see if this is what daddy has been lookin' for for a crack rack!

Thanks for the good info! Looks like these things are just awesome for cracking! Now what kind of motherboard does a K5 use and can you OC them??

golfisart,

When no one is looking, ease on over to the
Distributed Computing forum. Knock on the
door, two quick, one slow. Tell them you
are there to see a man about a cow. You'll
be let right in. Look for Russ, Paulson
and others.

Sorry Networkman, They had k5 166's about a month ago for $5 a piece. I actually bought 10 of them for a cheap crack rack and shortly after they raised their price on the 133's(musta thought something was up). $60 shipped for 166's that do 200 are a hell of a deal ;). These little guys do about 150 blocks a day each too.

If anyone wants to know more about RC5 or any other distributed computing projects come on over to the DC forum and check it out;).

EDIT: Heres the Link to the old post on these.
