AMD/Intel, Nvida/ATI

If AMDs competition were NVidia or ATI they could easily overpower either, or both. But AMDs competition is actually the 71st largest multinational corporations in the world. Now if the 17th largest corporation, IBM, ever merged with AMD -- like has been rumored for ages -- Intel would be in some serious trouble, almost immediately. However, AMD probably will have to settle for the technological assistance they've received recently from IBM.
