AMD - How low can it go?

I thought I would buy some AMD stock when it dipped below $10, but now I'm not so sure. I was hoping they would release something competitive around this time. That didn't happen. I still think AMD will bounce back though. My question is, how much further can they sink before that time comes?

i think they'll be around a while

not sure if they could get bought out if they get too cheap though

Remember AMD doesn't just make processors and video cards. They make imbedded devices and chipsets for all kinds of things. I highly doubt they will go under, but I doubt that their stock will be worth more than $10 anytime in the next 3 years.

Donut make the mistake of looking at AMD backwards. Ergo, they had a couple good years because Intel stumbled not because they are really competitive.

I don't expect them to outplay Intel again. If they do then that's just a bonus.

Adam, what interest you about AMD? Is it soley the price? Or some upcoming technology or product we don't know about?

I see AMD as a single digit midget.

Oh, I don't think VIA would let that happen. No, AMD will be added to the Cyrix and Winchip braintrust. ;)

Seriousry though, AMD depended upon their aquisition of NexGen to survive in the CPU bidness and later caught a break when Intel stumbled as said. Now they are depending upon integration of ATI (which itself depended upon ArtX).

Wow, that makes me wish I had spent the required $500 to get an Intel CPU that could run at 2.5ghz instead of the measly $40 I spent on my stock 1.47ghz 1700+ that I was only able to OC to 2.5 ghz on air cooling. Granted that was years ago, but dollar for dollar it beat Intel's dick with a stick.

Don't worry, people are still laughing at your Presler.

AMD/Ati have proven they can make highly competitive products. They can most certainly do it again. Since AMD bought Ati things have slowed considerably, but I think that will change.

I'll continue to support AMD even if they are slightly behind the curve at the moment because choice in the marketplace and innovation in processor design are more important to me in the long run than benchmarks are today.

I would be interested in buying their stock, but when? Its got to eventually go up! Heck Kmart did and they're Kmart.

Nortel stock fell below $1 in October 2002 (with over 94K employees). It is back up to $17 with 33K employees.

AMD can survive just as Motorola and Texas Instruments do now. They are chip suppliers to markets around the globe. As for being a CPU competitor or number one, that remains to be seen. But their company will not collapse because their CPUs are second best.

EDIT: AMD has $5.3 billion in long-term debt on its balance sheet, much of it acquired as a result of its 2006 acquisition of Canadian graphics chip company ATI. Because of the problems of debt in the market, holding that much long term is dragging the stock down.

Before AMD either gets bought out or if they win any kind of court case or settlement with Intel. Anytime after, you won't get the lowest stock price.

Barcelona might make AMD rise 2nd qt of next year. Performance we all ready know about, it's the pricing and quantity AMD will be producing by next year that has everybody worried. AMD has a lot still to work out with their 65nm and 45nm to keep production costs down.

Yeah, it's hard to believe they are remaining below the $12 mark. That has been the resistance point for awhile. The forecast is grim. If you're looking to get in I'd wait for better news which may be for a long time to come. Don't catch a falling knife.

I already bought 250 shares when they hit $12.15. If it goes below $10 again I think I'm gonna pick up a few more. I think this is definitely a bargain priced stock right now. They are big in the hole since they bought ATI though. I read they sold a big chunk of stock to an Indian company and their stock price borked some more on that news.
