fixed :sneaky:

haha

pretty crazy you can get 6 cores for 200 beans. haven't been in the AMD game for awhile but I'm guessing no HyperThreading for "12" cores?

Wow, newegg not bending you over on new tech... That's rare. Generally they jack up hardware prices right around release date.

Won't these perform exactly like the Phenom II X4's on anything that doesn't make use of six core processing though? Unless there are other enhancements made to this besides the addition of two extra cores that I'm not aware of.

I'm just wondering because you can get the PII X4 965 3.4GHz still for only $180.00, whereas the X6 is only running at 2.8GHz.

the 2.8 has turbo to 3.3 ghz though. so with 3 cores its still running as fast as the 965. plus it has some power optimizations.

Might not be much faster then quads but they will multi-task better. Could encode a movie on 4 cores and have two cores for web surfing.

....2 core for web browsing? What the hell kind of web browsing are you doing?!?

Turn off your noscript and flashblock and browse just about anywhere. Once that half a meg of javascript (now with async AJAX!) and 5-6 flash ads per tab start running you'll want more than one CPU core. Especially if you're running a virus checker to inspect each and every one of your TCP packets and the complete javascript/html/whathaveyou.

Who the F does that outside of corporate and knows enough to be excited by a hex core proc?

I can't tell you the last time I ran AV on my systems. I run it on my gf's, because well, she enjoys bloating her system to the point of it becoming un-usable. It's not difficult to avoid getting malware, and I usually reformat every summer (sometimes a second time in the winter) anyways so it's never a huge deal if I do get something.

Point is, adblock+no AV=no need for 2 cores for web surfing :p

I just bought one from Tigerdirect for my new Lucid box. I run a lot of gcc compilations (for work) so the more the cores, the better.
I really want to get a 890FX board but I don't really care about the crossfire setup. Maybe just get 890GX and disable the video.

Not true. I always thought this was the case and thought I was smart enough to avoid risky stuff. I am a software developer and have gone the past 15 years without any viruses. I know not to open attachments and not to download .exe's from torrents, etc. I run adblock and noscript and even don't have flash installed except for in a 32-bit firefox install that I only open when I need to see youtube or pr0n.

Anyways, I got infected while searching for a fix to a problem on some coworkers' machines. All I did was visit a website and suddenly had like 182 virus infections. I was not running any AV, but now I am. That happened to be the only PC I use that wasn't using AV. It was also a w2k3 machine not sure if that made any difference.
