Ive got a amd anthlon/duron motherboard a7v-vm. I am going to buy a processor for it but i dont know what processors work on it. Can you please send us the name and price for the processor that can work with this motherboard so i know what type of processor i am going to have to buy and what the prices will be

The motherboard ive got is an amd anthlon/duron motherboard. It is a socket 462 (SOCKET A). im new and im suprised at how fast the reply was

I this is it then you have several choices. This is a list of some of the CPU.

ZZF XP

ZZF Sempron
Only those labelled Socket A will work.

Please if you can give me the MB maker Asus, Abit, etc.

I think your best bet would be

xp 3000+ 333Mhz

or, but only if you are certain your MB can support 400Mhz,

xp 3200+ 400Mhz

The second is $100 dollar more than the first.

If you really have the Asus A7V-VM (1999-2000, is the year they make it, IIRC), then you have an old motherboard, that will take any old Duron and Athlon that have a 100MHz (200ddr) FSB. this board use the kt-133 chipset, whis use 100-133 MHz sd-ram. No DDR memory here.

If you want to stay safe, dont get AthlonXP and up. Just get the plain Athlon, the thunderbird core, and NOT the T-Bird "C" core, which need a fsb at 133, which require at least the kt133A. If you get a Duron, I'm not sure, but I dont think that it support the newer core, which I dont remember the name. You may not find any BIOS to support newer chips, so that why I tell you to stay safe.

If you want something fast and stable, get not higher than an Athlon 1000. the higher clocked Athlon ran very hot and unless you know about good cooling and airflow in a case, I dont advise.

SD-RAM memory become harder to find at low price, because the newer DDR memory is the new standard and no new motherboard support older memory standard. You need at least 256megs if you plan to run newer apps and OS. 512 definitively better.

At this point, you should ask yoursefl if it worth it to spenp any money for that old board that may fail anytime and leave you with useless old parts. Unless you get the CPU and memory for free.

So, all what the other told you is not advisable in your case, if you have the A7V-VM. if it is a more modern motherboard, then you may support faster CPU, but if you dont, anything tha krcat1 tould you wont work. he should have researched more before maybe giving you false info.

Ive got a motherboard called p4p800se (intel 865pe) I was told it was new but i dont know what prcessor to buy for it and thanks for the information

Once again I am sorry that I lead you astray the last time.

However The Asus p4p800 se is one of the board that I have. So lets try this again.

P4 Northwood and Prescott at Newegg

This is a list of CPU that you would want to buy. Look for:
A. Socket 478 Pentium 4
B. 800Mhz FSB ( Front Side Bus )
C. HT - Hyper Threading

The you need to look at the core of the CPU, you want either a Northwood or a Prescott.
The Northwood will have the 'C' at the end of the name - Pentium 4/ 3.0C
The Prescott will have a 'E' - Pentium 4/ 3.0E

The Prescott is the newer core with 1MB of cache and the SSE3 instructions.
The Northwood is the older core with 512K of cache.

However, many in AT forums believe the Northwood is the better CPU.
The Prescott run hotter than the Northwood, and in many cases slower.

You should also look for the retail version of the CPU, not the OEM.
The retail version has a 3 year warranty and has a heatsink.
With the OEM, you will have to buy a heatsink.

P4 3.0E Retail
