Eff the microstutter. I want to hear some his benchmark results. Hoping he plays at a high resolution.

I may be waiting till next year for the 7970s if they only get the 7870s/50s out this year.

My thinking is IF 7870 is a 6950 with higher stock clock and 150w TDP, then given performance of current 6950's in for example BF3, a single 6870 should be good for a year and a half if you think 40fps at 1080p and all 'high' settings is acceptable.

A 6870 with one of the MSI Frozr III coolers? Should last me even longer and overclock to 1000 with luck- and leaves a very attractive upgrade path in that Crossfire is very attractive at that likely price point and at that TDP very economical.

7970? I'd love one, but the bang for buck just isn't good enough even given how infrequently i upgrade- at current, a 6950 2gb for £200 is the absolute MAX i'm willing to spend and that would be building a new system from scratch- which i'm about to do but given how close AMD 7xxx is i'd be a lunatic to buy a 6950 now.

The above is my opinion of course, i'm sure anyone offended to m alluding they might be a lunatic can take it on the chin and contemplate their higher spending power :)

jumping the gun arent you?

7970 could be 50% faster than 6970 for 300dollars for all we know, or it could be 250 dollars with the same performance inscrease, depending on yields, die sizes etc etc.

Maybe, but given how 69xxx prices have remained high, rumors of yield problems and the fact ATI wont have direct competition from a new gen immediately its a fair cop to suggest prices on a 7970 might be well into 'enthusiast' territory.
