If I remember the Opet. will have dual channel ram, like the nFoce. So you need 2 slabs of ram to work right. So the 16 slots is like 8, but I am sure they will each take at least up to 1gig slabs. So you could have Dual Hammers with 1mb cache each, and 16gigs of DDR dual channel Ram.
Now thats fast !!!!! Anybody want to do some DNA decoding :)

That pic is a EARLY prtotype made just to show the public that the chips are working. The case is also a special deal mostly to open itself up so people could look inside.

Also forgot to add, Compaq and other have found the P4 Xeon is a LOT slowwer than the P3 Xeon. Its so much of a Diff. compaq and others are still selling the P3 version and have not even touched the P4 version. Of course Dell has there lips so much on Intels BU_Ts that they sell the P4 version as it has more Mhz and sounds faster and sell better than the less Mhz computer, even though it is faster.

If Dell didnt kiss Intels ass at every opportunity they probably wouldn't get as good deals on chips from them, which would lower their profit margin.

Unfortunately, it's all about the money :(

Ahh well. I used to be a big fan of Dell, way back in teh day when it was a quality company. It's gone downhill, no doubt.

That pic must be upside-down or something. You can see a blank backplate in the upper-right corner.

Define "a quality company". One that spends itself into the red to pay for tech support? Dell still has the highest support and hardware quality ratings of any of the major computer companies...

Its definite proof that they do have heatsinks and fans for it...but what about processors?

From the size of that sledgehammer mobo (It'll be a cold day in hell before I say "Opteron") I'd going to make a prediction:

SLEDGEHAMMER MOBOS WILL HAVE SUCK-ASS LAYOUTS

Probably 2 PCI slots, a short AGP slot (not AGP pro), RAM slots placed randomly around the board, without rackmount-friendly slants, capacitors packed right up next to the slots, making installation of a decent heatsink impossible, and forget about integrated ethernet and video.

I say this because production mobos will have to be MUCH smaller than that card table of a PCB to fit into standard cases.

But if it's fast and stable, who cares? ;)
