AMD Gaming Evolved Roadmap

I'm dreading the fact that I'm going to have to try to move another Crysis 3/Bio/Far Cry bundle with my second 7950 that I picked up last night, hopefully I can time my next two 7950 purchases to pick up some new games.

Game bundles are great, but I'd still rather have a discount instead.

Well now that AMD has moved onto GCN for everything tessellation is a moot point. Especially in the games where they tacked on an extreme tessellation almost as a tech demo IE Metro 2033.

Metro 2033 didn't have extreme tessellation. It was only used on character models and had a moderate performance hit. Depth of Field, the other DX11 feature, was the real killer causing something like 60-70% loss of FPS. My 5870 did pretty good in it with tessellation on but DoF off.

So, you would trade 7 for 1? That's a bit rhetorical, but if that's the only title you can list, I'd say that the current gaming evolved roadmap is pretty sweet.

Not saying it isn't a good lineup for most people, but I'm not most people. I have little interest in BF4 for instance, even though that is almost certainly going to be a smash hit. I have interest in COH2 and Rome 2 the most on the list. I'm hoping COH2 will be good despite the THQ turmoil. Rome 2 looks great, but I will refuse to buy it if it's basically single-threaded like Shogun 2... this has nothing to do with AMD, just my voting with my wallet against CA's sloppy coding, just like I refuse to buy Mass Effect 3 until they come out with a GOTY edition because I absolutely refuse to buy a game that you pretty much have to buy a couple of DLCs for just to really flesh out the game. I'm not really into racing games, and 2 of those games I don't know anything about so I'll reserve judgment (hence my stating I haven't heard about those games and "???").

And yes, I would trade all of those for HL3. But that's just me.

I love how I've been accused of being *BOTH* an AMD and an NV shill whenever I say anything the least bit critical about either company. Lol.

AMD's game bundles have been doing very well lately but their upcoming Never Settle bundles I personally find less compelling than their old Never Settle. Especially the drool-worthy TR/Bioshock combo... that's a killer combo and many of the other games weren't bad either (e.g., Deus Ex, Sleeping Dogs). Emphasis on personal, as should have been clear when I noted that BF4 is likely to be a mega-blockbuster but that I am jaded by that genre personally.

This has nothing to do with NV. Did I say anything about NV? No. Why? Because I am not interested in NV's bundled games very much. Borderlands 2? No thanks. Not really interested in Metro LL either. They are both in my "meh" category.

If you disagree that is fine, but your behavior on these forums is reprehensible, particularly in the CPU forum where you are a laughingstock.

Ha. Ever since I met my gf, I haven't gamed much. We mostly do outdoors stuff like hiking/backpacking/camping/etc. and cook and travel. I played a grand total of two games in the last 6 months, both single-player games so they didn't take long to finish. There just aren't very many games that interest me anymore. I'm mostly waiting for Half Life 3 now as my next must-play game. Sad I know. 🙂

The best thing about these being Gaming Evolved titles, IMO, is that they will run well on everyone's hardware. No lockouts. No vender specific features. I wish people would realize the importance of this.

/edit: BTW: Grid 2 and Rome 2 are optimize for Haswell, too. Funny to see them as a Gaming Evolved title.

You are just proving his point. GE is doing great for PC gaming in general. We don't straight console ports. We get great looking games, that run great. Some of them come with new graphical features that may take a little time to iron out. But it's going in the right direction. The Next game to feature TressFX will run better and look better than TR. If Kepler can't run it so well, then it's a limitation of the achitecure not, AMD screwing nvidia over.

Maxwell should fix that and then everyone can have good looking games, that run great. We may even have GPU physics that perform well on all hardware (Thanks PS4/Xbox). I don't understand how that doesn't excite you, when PC gaming is being moved forward. I guess all you want is AMD to go down in flames? I don't know how that makes your life better. I know both AMD and nvidia being around has made my gaming better over the years.

I don't know why you keep saying Tomb Raider. There are no features, that I am aware of, that don't run on both company's hardware. Same with DA2 and Dirt Showdown. Maybe I've missed something and you can fill me in? Also, the way I understand it, TressFX is a particle effect done on a per pixel basis. Am I wrong about this? It's hard to follow your point because you don't point out anything specific. You just make vague comments.

It's a factual fact with basis in fact that has been factually shown and proven that in fact NV and AMD have different performance characteristics when performing GPGPU calculations.
If TressFX uses DirectCompute effects at which it is faster than 6 series NV GPUs, that is the fault of NV for crippling their DirectCompute performance.

It is a known quantity that in some areas of GPGPU, the GTX680 is slower than the GTX580. That is NV reducing their own performance. If, say, TressFX made use of such a type of GPGPU calculation, then NV would suffer and end up being "slow".

That's not to say TressFX is remotely worth the performance hit, but saying that it's designed to make NV slow and doesn't work on NV hardware, when potentially it's the NV hardware which is slow, is silly.
The effects do operate on NV hardware.

How can you know NV won't reduce their GPU performance in some areas again? How can you buy a next gen GPU from NV when they might cripple it in some way that ends up being used going forwards.
DirectCompute benchmarks run faster on a GTX580 even when a GTX680 runs faster overall.

Nvidia has no problem with DirectCompute with TressFX. The 680 is faster than a 7970 in real gameplay. Who knows what AMD did to that integrated benchmark?
