Hello!
I just bought new CPU AMD FX8320e. I have MB Asus m5a97 pro and this MB doesnt have support for this CPU only for 8320. I want to ask if something can happen to CPU till i buy new MB in few weeks. Now im on this build and it works fine, but it only shows 4gb of ram instead of 8gb.

Your 8320e should work with the m5a97 despite not being on the compatibility list. It may mis-identify the CPU at boot, but it will work.

Not sure why your system is only detecting and utilizing half of the system RAM, though. How many RAM sticks are you using?

Thanks for Answer.
I am using 2 4gb kingston 1600mhz rams and using the same color memory slots. In bios it shows both of the rams also in windows (8,00 GB (usable 3,95 GB)).

seems like a pin issue. Clean the slots and check cpu for any bent pins

Try running msconfig, option Boot, then advanced options. For maximum memory enter 8129.

Okay so, now i change the freq from 1333 to 800mhz and now it shows 8gb. Also changed from 1,65 to 1,5v.

Huh. Interesting. You need to remove both DIMMs and then troubleshoot each one individually. Try to get them running in single-channel config (one stick) @ 1333 MHz, 1.65v and see what happens.

So today i put back my old phenom 2 x4 965be and it still shows only 4gb of ram. So i put back FX, tried sticks in single channel one start normaly the other one didnt work, but if it is on 800mhz it still shows 8gb. Now i dont know if it is cpu or bad ram :O

and one more question, shouldnt have FX8320e 8cores and 16threads? Because in cinebench it shows only 4cores and 8threads

No, it is a 4c/8t part (kinda).

From an integer perspective, FX is 8c/8t.
Otherwise, it's a 4c/8t part.

You can't use a core definition a la Intel to define an FX module. This has been beaten to death for over six years.

As an owner for 10x 8320 systems, I'm well aware of this, hence my more detailed elaboration
rather than just "4c/8t" ;)

So you are saying one stick would work and the other would not? My first impression is bad RAM, or at least one stick of RAM not running faster than 800 MHz anyway.

Now it is more weird. I let it be for some time, was away from PC dont use it like 1week (6days), turn PC on 8gb ram 1333mhz i was like "WTF? What happened?". But It doesnt have 8gb every time. After restart it show again 4gb (8gb 3,95gb usable). I tried overclock CPU on 3,5ghz it also works fine so i think it is not MB problem. So only RAM should be problem :O

I had an Asus motherboard years ago (Core 2 Q6600 CPU) that would not boot into Windows with all four DDR2 RAM slots filled, but it would boot with one removed - from any slot - and always recognize 12GB. Likewise, the BIOS would only show three sticks. The solution for me was to not let the BIOS automatically select RAM speed. The BIOS wanted to run at 667MHz, but I manually locked it to 800MHz, then turned it off, then added the fourth stick, then made sure that it was running at 800MHz, then it rebooted fine and has been working flawlessly for about 10 years. 8GB 800MHz in BIOS and Windows every time.

Sounds like you're on the right path by manually adjusting your RAM speed and voltages, but you might be trying to go higher than it will allow (faulty board, faulty RAM, or firmware restriction).

on 800mhz it works fine i did nothing with voltages now. But isnt it too slow now? Or is it noticable between ram frequency?

So one of my rams works only on 800mhz the other one works well. I just want to ask if is better to buy one 8gb stick or 2x4gb sticks or 1x4gb
