AMD FX 9830P (How bad is it?)

There's a Dell Gaming laptop for sale with awesome specs for the price of $661.

256GB SSD
1TB HDD
RX 560
8GB RAM

But...

AMD FX 9830P

Considering this is a low to mid range gaming laptop intended for 1080p resolution, just how much will that anemic AMD CPU limit it, especially when compared to a Kaby Lake Intel i5?

From what I see online, it's pretty depressing. I mean... this thing is even much slower than i5-2500(not K)

Is this a good buy at all?

If I was to get it, I would be expecting good performance in Fallout 4, Company of Heroes II, Doom, Prey, and pretty much anything available right now. Maybe not "ultra settings" but medium to high, I'd want for sure.

It's going to be slower than a Core i3. Its only advantage is decent integrated graphics, but that goes to waste in that laptop with a discrete graphics card.

The problem with most AMD laptop CPUs is that they have trouble maintaining clocks for extended periods of time. Other than that, as it's been said above, it will at best be close to a Core i3 U-series CPU.

Stills seems like a lot of laptop for $650. The 560 is very capable at 1080p too.

That said, the CPU is indeed a killer. I came from the comparable X4 860K prior to my Ryzen and it held back so much of my other hardware. I don't think you'd even be feeding the 560 to its full potential.

wish you could get actual benchmarks for notebooks. seems like the only ones you get are notebook check where you're lucky to find a vaguely similar setup from a different manufacturer (and that odd graph setup), or something from engadget where they just complain it isn't a macbook pro for 3 pages.

It would be good enough to replace a Phenom II 920~960 w/ a 5770 dGPU. In mobile form, but the i7-7700HQ w/ 1050 Ti is essentially Haswell Refresh w/ a 680/770 GTX. [The i7-7700HQ goes down as low as $899, well worth the price for actual functional VP9 support. Speedshift, Nvidia-exclusive features, more likeable perf imho.]

The best part of that laptop seems to me to be the fact that it has an SSD for 600.00. Just a quick look on Newegg shows an acer for 814.00 with a true quad skylake i5 and a GTX 1050 for only about a hundred dollars more link . No SSD, but much more balanced cpu/gpu for gaming.
