AMD Duron designations: Was I deceived?

Long time lurker, but I really need some help. After endless problems with a barebones, I realized the MoBo (K7SEM V3.0C) is a different version than the one that was pictured at the time of purchase. It already came bundled with a Duron K7 CPU, but the ad for the barebones read "Duron(tm) XP 1300+ Barebone Kit". AMD's website showed the Duron 1300 wasn't recommended to be paired with this MoBo, and the company admitted the MoBo already came paired with the Duron. Before I complain and ask the company where they came up with "XP 1300+" I figured I'd ask for other's opinions. Thanks.

I've seen that on ebay as well...Durons have not been made in a while, and there is no such thing as an XP Duron. The lower Athlon XP available is 1500+. It sounds odd-notify AMD about it, I'm sure they'd love to know about their all new Durons 🙂...If all does not go well, as long as that mobo supports it, get the Athlon XP 1700+, those things are a damn huge value.

You wouldn't believe how many resellers don't know what they're selling... I've seen an "Intel Pentium4 XP2400 (2.8 Ghz actual)" advertised before in junk e-mail that I got.

i was thinking maybe cuz its built on morgan core and has all the features of an athlon xp i believe like hardware prefetch and such

Nah, trust me, these people don't have any clue what they are doing and need to be told so by AMD. I would seriously pursue this if I were you, see if you can get some kind of refund, or a processor that will actually suit you.

If its one of those soldered on ECS jobs, they've reworked the BIOS to show a performance rating higher than the actual clock speed. Here's one in my area called a 1600Pro...actually a Duron with a clock speed of 1.1GHz.

AMD has never made a Duron XP 1300. ITs a 900mhz with a xp1300 rating. THere are alot of local cheesy shops that sell those combos. Why would you buy such bundle in the first place with the vast amount of information you can get here on the AT forums.

You shoulda done your homework.🙂

This was for a friend who wanted the cheapest upgrade possible from a 200MHz Pentium. I have the K7S5A and like it so I figured I'd recommend another ECS. Unfortuntely I was under the impression buying this that it was the K7SEM V1.0 and a Duron 1300 (which IS the board that was pictured). I was having problems setting this up and kept looking up info. for the wrong board. Finally, I realized I was looking up the wrong board.

Yes, upon boot it shows the CPU as "Pro 1300+" so it's as human2k says. The company keeps blaming ECS for the labeling, but I finally found the BIOS setting that was giving me the headache (no thanks again to their customer service) and everything is running smoothly. Since everything is running fine I'll probably let it die and maybe send AMD and ECS an email on it.

Ya get what ya pay for.
