Anyone know when/if AMD is releasing a dual-cored Turion and when we could start seeing notebooks with the processor?

No. However, when they do, they'll likely OC very well.
I'd expect that they'll come out after DDR2 support is released.

I can't see how they'd have dual-core Turions without better power optimization or a die shrink, and I know AMD has gone on record as saying that the latter won't happen (i.e. they'll be on 90 nm for much if not all of 2006). For now, I'd go with Core Duo if I needed multiprocessing in my laptop.

I'd say late Spring, early Summer. AMD was tight lipped about it @ CES, but given no further development on Turion will occur we will see the new dual core mobile platform to launch soon.

It isn't a big deal, just wondering if I would see any competition in the dual-cored mobile market when it comes to getting a notebook for college, but either way, if I have to go with a Core Duo processor, I'll be fine with that.

I'd say there's a good chance you'll be able to purchase notebooks by Fall (college), it is just a matter of what selection you have. Right now Turion notebooks aren't near as plentiful as Intel's mobile platform, so you're limited in the configurations you can find. Same will probly be true with the next platform.

If you wait till summer/fall though, Intel's Merom should come out and prices on Yonah might drop; assuming its not replaced outright (which I doubt given the quick turnaround on platforms).
