AMD Dual-Core Optimizer Update

It's also supposed to have multi-core support i.e. 4x4. Perhaps we'll see a new round of benchmarks on their latest engineering exercise.

Should you uninstall the old optimizer first?

If you DL and run it, the setup file will first uninstall the previous version and reboot. You then run it once again and you're good to go.

something's weird...the version of the setup file is the exact same as the old optimizer....

Wow thats a neat little application, can anyone run some before and after tests?

I can do a quick test of CS:S. I don't have anything else installed at the moment.

I did a CS:S test and a BF2142 test:

CS:S old opt: testrun 1: 108FPS, testrun 2: 106FPS
CS:S "new" opt: testrun 1: 111FPS, testrun 2: 107FPS

BF old: testrun 1: 54FPS, testrun 2: 58FPS
BF "new"; testrun 1: 60FPS, testrun 2: 56FPS...

no big difference....

Does anyone know EXACTLY when this came out?

I ask because I just installed my Opteron 165 about 4 days ago and I downloaded the Dual-Core Optimizer then. When I downloaded the "new" setup file the meta-data showed it was the same as the version I already had. Now cmrmrc is saying that the "new" version still appears to have the old version number, despite the fact that it's new.

the first optimizer came out in march 06 according to amd's release notes...it was version 1.0.0

the one i downloaded about a month ago and the one currently available on amd's website is 1.0.0.83...the new one was released on November 2006

I forgot about my posting my CS:S results. My gains were a little better then yours:

CS:S 4XAA/All High/Water-Reflect World/16X HQAF/1680x1050:

Old Run 1: 138.5fps. Run 2: 137.9 fps.
New Run 1: 145.7fps Run 2: 145.5fps.

The settings never changed, all I did was reboot the computer in between the removal of the old driver and installation of the new.

Here are some examples, just what I had installed at the time.

Opteron 170 @ 2.7

3DMark 06 (1680x1050)--- Before 8928 After 8951
  • 2.0 --- Before 4180 After 4180
    HDR/3.0--- Before 4123 After 4121
    CPU --- Before 1992 After 2013

3DMark 05 (1680x1050) --- Before 13,341 After 13,355

Aquamark --- Before 106,893 After 107,950
  • GFX --- Before 19,962 After 20,253
    CPU --- Before 11,505 After 11,564

CoD2 All max, 1680x1050 Before 46.4 After 48.6
