AMD Dual Core -- NOT S939

Im not sure it is at all necessary. Memory bandwidth should be fine, after all the 754's did fine with single channel. On top of that it is the INQ reporting...

Hmm, there must be some technical issues involved. Perhaps they'll synch such a change with the adaption of DDR2, in order to make the transition less onerous.

A new socket would probably be for DDR2.

Dual-core Opterons are still coming in mid-2005 for s940. AMD has said all along that dual-core will be drop-in for current s939 boards. I don't se any evidence that this plan has changed.

That article was confusing. It says that AMD is considering a socket change (at least for desktops) but at the same time says that AMD doesn't want to put it's partners through another socket change. I'll wait for more information. I think the person that passed that info didn't really understand what AMD said.

So much for all the market hype over the past 12 months about being able to simply drop a dual-core chip in your existing motherboards once they're available. Not that anybody should trust marketspeak these days...

i believe the next socket will be socket 900. i had this one website that is constantly updated and gives out information on future amd procs. i've been checking their site for over half a yr and they havent been wrong yet. now i need to search that site up. i sent my laptop into hp repair a week ago and they friggin reformatted it. gay. there was no mention of it.

Hmm, kinda annoying, but not surprising.

I googled AMD socket 900 & lots of references to it came up, but nowhere with any concrete proof.

Doesn't suprise me though; they are always changing.

WHO CARES. If you have to spend $150-200 dollars on a new motherboard big deal. That is a very very small price to pay for dual core power. I will impressed as hell if AMD can actually put to market a dual core processor by the middle of next year.

Yeah man! I'm really hoping that with a bios update and new PSU I can drop in 2 dual-cores and have quad Opteron cored dually 😀 I doubt it will happen though because they will probably require the board have independent memory addressing capabilities which mine doesn't, but hey! I guy can dream 🙂 I'm guessing the XP pro 64bit will support all 4 cores, anyone know for certain?
