AMD Driver Help

I'm having serious issues with the AMD drivers on my computer and I cannot seem to make any progress myself.

I cannot seem to upgrade my AMD Graphics drivers past 14.3. I've tried uninstalling all my drivers twice and both times, even though I specified that the USB Driver should not be removed, my chipset driver has been uninstalled and I've had to use a system restore. I'm also now unable to access AMD Catalyst. It seems to have completely disappeared.

There's a huge mess of files named 'AMD', 'ATI', 'ATI Technologies' in my Program Files(x86), Program Files, and an 'AMD' folder in my C: Drive. I know many of these are duplicates but I'm afraid to delete any of them and mess something up.

This is really driving me crazy. I, apparently, have no idea what I'm doing. I'm in need of help. How do I properly remove ALL AMD drivers & reinstall them, without messing up my computer and having to do a system restore and being back to square one. I need a fresh slate. Would reinstalling windows be my only option at this point?

^^^ That looks like it might work. I updated my Catalyst driver on my HTPC last night and the new version keeps crashing... I might have to try that, too.

Last time I tried to updated a video made by third part video card company who lic. ATI or Nvidia and tried using the OEM drivers right from ATI or Nvidia then yes my video cards would ALWAYS overheat. But once I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled the driver from CD that came with the card then no more problems.

The lesson I learned? I no longer buy third party re-licensed tech.
EXAMPLE. PNY Nvidia video cards...... NOPE! Do not buy.
BOB'S Inc super duper overclocked to the MAX ATI VIDEO CARD. STAY AWAY !!!!!!!

I just stick to the source and that is now AMD/ATI and NVIDIA.

These borrowed Licensed video cards are rip off gimmicks. Only low brow suckers buy them.

Try this at your own risk. Only for Windows 7 and 8.

Also a manual removal guide, you might want to check for traces left.

Thank you for those solutions. Unfortunately, my computer cannot seem to conduct either one properly. Windows should have some generic usb drivers that would allow my mouse to function without the USB/Chipset drivers. This is not the case. Using either of the methods listed renders my mouse and keyboard inoperable. I believe a windows reinstall or a PS/2 mouse are my only option.

Unfortunately the idiot on the phone at Radio shack doesn't know what a Ps/2 mouse is. He thinks I'm referring to some kind of PlayStation 2 mouse

Looks like I need to find a PS/2 mouse somewhere.

Thank you for that but.... that's not really what I asked. AMD does not sell reference r7 260x's so it's a moot point you're making nor does it answer the removal part of my question.

Actually, he has a point... my passively-cooled HD6450 immediately went to 50C, no load. :(

I'm fixing to go through the manual removal process outlined above... *sigh*

That's great... but that's not what this thread is about.

If you have any recommendations on work-arounds for the subject (other than OS reinstall) of the thread let me know...

Even after clearing out all the AMD/ATI files manually, Catalyst still isn't stable... and this is after reloading the ancient 11.11 driver and Catalyst. I had to use a backup image reinstall to get it right.

I would probably go through the motions of removing all the AMD/ATI files (it only took about 5 minutes) and reinstall... see if that works. ...but it sounds like something else got messed up. You have an AMD CPU... the Catalyst uninstaller says it may remove file(s) that are necessary for your CPU.

After removing the files and folders did you do a regedit and delete the ATI folders there?
Next time you do a clean up and a reinstall then do not choose the default path.

When it shows you a path it wants to install to c:\program files(x86)\ati then change it to.....
When it shows you a path it wants to install to c:\program files(x86)\atiiiii This way
the registry will truly be using a new location for the driver.

Now after that and it still crashes then its not a video driver issue and would assume files are infected on your hard drive.

I'll give that a shot. Thank you!

Is it as simple as saving, for example, 14.9 as a new path 'AMD Radeon GfxDrivers' restarting, and then deleting the old 'ATI Technologies' folder?

Thank you. I ended up reinstalling windows though. Seemed like the best option. Thanks for all the help.

Yes, at some point it's time to let go of the "why" and "how" instincts that some of us have and just get it working. Glad to hear you were able to do so.
