Not exactly filling me with excitement. I doubt those cores will match sandy bridge, let alone ivy bridge.

Technically the Bulldozer will be 16 cores (2 "cores" per Bulldozer module), or at least I'm sure that's what the marketing guys will push.

Anyway, nothing new or exciting unfortunately. I'm trying not to get too hyped up about Bulldozer, I think the people expecting huge performance gains are going to be seriously disappointed. If AMD can deliver something that can at least match Nehalem performance, I'd consider that a major step forward. I really doubt Bulldozer will be able to go head-to-head with Sandy Bridge, though, performance of Intel's new architecture is looking really good.

Initially, no. AMD's first generation desktop/laptop Fusion parts (Llano) will use old K10.5 cores for the CPU.

Because Deneb is already a proven core, it makes sense to have a shrunk down version of Deneb as the first Fusion chip rather than having Bulldozer be the one. Doing CPU and GPU integration takes extra time and complexity.

I expect Bulldozer will do ok to compete with Intel in the midrange market. Intel owns the high end.

APU: If you need more GPU horse power buy AMD. If you need more CPU horse power buy Intel. APUs from either camp won't be a solid buy until 3rd gen.

Agreed, generally speaking. However, if you're in the ultraportable market where there isn't space for a discrete GPU, APUs are going to be a big step forward. Look at Zacate, it's going to give you the ability to play WoW and SC2 on a netbook. That's a huge increase from where IGPs were on mainstream notebooks several years ago, nevermind the performance of past ultraportables.

Yeah I've been waiting for these to buy some new toys. I'm going to need a netbook soon and I've been trying to hold out for APUs. I'm hoping Asus does something with Zacate. That combigned with Intel G3 SSDs would be a great combo, if Intel ever releases those.
