drool...

My next PC will be:

Dual Core Athlon 64
Antec Sonata II or Antec P160 (or mayyyybe Tsunami)
2x1GB PC3200 or faster (or 3x or 4x depending on me funds / prices)
Snapstream / Hauppage 250BTV
74gb raptor for OS + apps
2x300+ gb HD for media storage
Existing 6800GT AGP (or trade it+cash for a PCI-e depending on mobo)
and one big freakin' smile on my face
😀

teh w00tness?

but cons:

1) price premium,
2) limited availability at first and
3) not clocked as high as single core Athlon 64s

Dual core won't necessarily make games faster though guys.. keep that in mind when making your purchases.

Intel claims a 15-35% increase in performance for applications that have parallelism at it's heart.

Games do not fall under this category.

Hmm, so the Fab facility is in Germany eh? that explains everything...AMD is now officially the BMW of processors! =D

Seriously though, thats pretty awesome. thats a pretty good garuntee that these will be TOP quality chips. I have to wonder though, will there be german engineers building these chips? where are the current A64 fab facilities located?

AMD factory is located in Dresden city, federal satate of saxony, east Germany, and is of course under control of german engineers. Most of the research is done right there, and they have engineers from all the world, I know about AMD proyects of building another factory just next to the actual to increase their production capacity, the budget for that proyect is of 8 Billion Euros, and is intended to be ready at 2006, it would be the most advanced chip factory in the world, with a capacity of 13000 wafers per month.
There are also two existant factorys in germany, fab 30 and fab 36, with a capacity of 5000 wafers a week, they costed over a billion dollars, are have being operative since 2000, they where builded thanks to big loans proveided by the Dresdner Bank and the goverment of the federal republic of germany. about 700 Million.
The construction of another factory was cancelled after the Emirate of Dubia which was going to invest 1.3 Billion Euros pulled out, but it's matter of time before it is continued, AMD seems to have a brilliant future, and the grow every year... intel owners... beware.

not good for games but good for Blenderheads like me. There is a setting in Blender for # of processors, can't wait to try that out some day.
