AMD Defective Chips

anyone hear anything about defective chips? I had a problem with my 1.4 tbird loading jpeg's in internet explorer and someone sent a link my way...http://www.gordonfamily.com/AMD . anyone able to verify this? Oddly enough i also have the staticy sound in the background that is also a sympton of a defective chip. I contacted AMD and am waiting on a response, but was just curious if anyone else heard of this

AMD replaced my k6-2 500mhz because of this.. I got my replacement in about a week 🙂 I've seen it mentioned on the web that it has shown up in T-Bird procs as well.

This only affected a very very small amount of K6-x series processors back in the day. Otherwise, any of the K7's should be just fine.

that page claims athlons/durons can also be affected, which would be unlikely IMHO since once AMD found out about it they would probably add another test that includes such an instruction sequence.

It only happens with MS programs too, so load the pic into photoshop or something else and it will be fine.

as well as here. No one could answer my question. I've heard of that website before, but everyplace I looked it up, it was supposedly a hoax. Went to AMD and they said they got a lot of e-mails about that site, but said it wasn't a confirmed problem.
I ended up re-formatting and re-installing on that machine, and guess what, it still happened. Went through Video Cards, Sound Cards, Drivers, and even a new Motherboard. Still kept happening. The only original peice left in his system was the Processor. We just shrugged it off as a bad processor, and never thought anything about it after that.

Yeah, i always assumed the staticy sound was my sound card and was just gonna get a new one during the summer. I formatted, reinstalled and still teh problem persisted. As previously stated , yes it only happens in IE, for if i save a messed up jpeg, and then open it in paint, it is fine. I emailed AMD last night and am hoping they will respond.

that seems so strange to me that the sound and images would get screwed up with a cpu and certain softwar but not others...these things always amaze me...

anyone know why....
