i heard they are not going to make Opteron's any more does that mean they were crap? is there anything bad to say about them? my best buddy wants to buy one, but now he's scared. Should he be?
 
It's called Opteron, and the plural is Opterons, no apostrophe.

They are of course still being made (which is clear if you read the news properly), AMD just makes sure not too much grey market leftovers from server/workstation builders ruin the Athlon-FX margin in the enthusiast market.

so if you had to pick what would you go with? athlon-fx or O-P-T-E-R-O-N?

If he can pay for an FX, go with an FX-60, they're dual core. If not, go with any Opteron, you can't really go wrong.. But this is the wrong forum..
